I saw the SC show last night. I assume it has been run before but if someone has not already commented about the question of a pineapple being the symbol of hospitality in SC here is the story I was told:
When a SC ship captain came home from the sea a pineapple was placed at the gate to his home to tell people passing by that he was home and was accepting visitors.
