I lived in Munich for two years and kind of wish Tony had gone there instead. Much more scenic than Berlin, IMHO. But the food looked pretty darn good. Anyone traveling to Germany should definitely be adventurous about trying out both the German stuff and Turkish food.
About the term "Mahlzeit", which Germans do say to each other at lunch time (as mentioned in the show); it's actually a shortened form of "Gesegnete Mahlzeit", meaning "have a blessed meal". I'd also like to point out the Germans almost always say Guten Appetit at mealtimes, even if they just happen to be around while someone else is eating. Contrary to what the guy in the episode claimed. Mahlzeit is more like a general greeting that you might say at lunch time, like "It's time for lunch" or "I'm going to lunch". |
