I enjoyed the show. Loved Danya. I have one burning question: How do the women whose faces are covered except for slits for their eyes eat? Or do they not eat in public? At first I wondered if the private tables in the fast food place were designed so that women could reveal their faces to eat. Might that be true? I like that concept of private tables a lot!

I thought that show was fantastic! Although I wish Danya could've explained the 'women's outfit' better. It's mostly traditional since it's not anywhere in the Islamic Bible (Koran).
You know I always wondered how women ate, and I think that could be the reason behind the private door things at the restaurant: to give enough privacy so that the women could take it off and eat....I'm only guessing though. |

Hi, Danya. Loved the show. I thought you were great...couldn't take my eyes off of you. You were by far the best guide that I have ever seen Tony with. You need not worry about being on camera. You have a wonderful, strong, warm personality...and very beautiful features (i love your eyes!). Anyway, what is your favorite family dish (and was it present at the final family feast shown near the end)? I think you are so right about family & friends...makes all the difference in the world. Again, great show.

Danya!
Salaam sister, and wow where do I start? As a fellow American raised Jeddawi, I couldn't believe it when my mom yelled from across the house (in typical Arab home style, of course) that something about Saudi Arabia is on Travel channel. And when I saw it was on Jeddah? Ya allah madad I couldn't believe it! You showcased our Bilad in the best way anyone could have, sister! I was so proud of how you described our respect for families, as well as the fact that today even Saudis dont't eat camel! (The only time I've ever rode a camel in al Mamlakah was at a petting zoo when I was 8!) I can't thank you enough for what you've done, for all of us. I thank you, Jeddah thanks you, all of Saudi thanks you, habibti. Simply, amazing. -Faisal Alireza |

I watched Tony and Danya in Saudi Arabia last night...LOVED it!! Not sure I would have been brave enough to try the lizard but would have eaten the camel...maybe!
The foods you, Danya, and your sisters served Tony at the end of the food looked wonderful! Maybe you could ad a link as to where we can find the recipes?? Also, in one scene Tony was eating rice and dipping it into a sauce...what kind of sauce was it? Chili sauce? Danya, wonderful job! You were definitely worth watching...I will watch the re-runs! |

Hello Danya!!
Greetings from El Paso Texas! I watched the show last night and I loved it. I am so happy you won. I can't wait to watch the rerun. Jeddah is absolutely beautiful. I think Tony's crew did an amazing job with the production. I have a question for you. Is Jeddah close to Mecca? I used to have a pen-pal in Mecca but have not heard from her since her Father passed away years ago. Is there anyway I can email you about this?? Anyway, your warm personality came thru on the show. I love your smile and your eyes. Much luck, love, success and respect, -Sylvia Fabela -Keep Smiling and Make Happy Memories |

hi Danya!
I just wanna say congrats to your win. I absolutely love your episode. I've always wanted to go to Saudi Arabia, but being an American woman, of course people tried their hardest talking me outta it. this episode showed my family that not all Arabs are terrorists. anyways, my questions are when would be the best time to go to Saudi Arabia and where should I stay? and yeah, if Saudis love to eat and shop, then it seems like the place for me! once again, congrats on your show. I can't wait to see the reruns. |

I always love learning about cultures that I have rarely seen or heard much about. I have been curious about Saudi Arabia for a very long time. You have made my interest grow. I am a teacher and I make a point to teach my students about the various cultural differences throughout the world. In the upcoming school year, I am going to make this show part of a lesson. My students would greatly benefit from seeing how you portrayed your country. If you are ever visiting the U.S. and find yourself near Alabama, we would love to host you as a visitor to our school. (Or if there could be a way that the students could talk to you through mail, email, etc., it would be a wonderful opportunity.) There is so much that I would love to ask you, but it would take too long! You are indeed an absolutely extraordinary woman with a lovely family. Thanks for all that you did. Congratulations.

No questions for her but I wonder why any western woman would move to an oppressive society that makes women cover up and whip them with 70 lashes for being caught with a man in public.

Sorry, this episode was my least favorite. Danya struck me as a somewhat pampered elite who doesn't know how most of the people in her country live. She had never tried most of the street food in her own country, and the look of revulsion on her face showed she wasn't interested. (Well, she is actually American, since she was born in the US-and this really showed).
The appeal of Tony's show is that he braves to go off the beaten track. Being escorted by a Saudi 'valley girl' from one mall to the next hardly qualifies. |

Hello Danya....first of all, your show was fantastic, and could not have come at a better time for me. My husband and I will be moving to Saudi within the next couple of months, to Khobar. Any information you could pass on to me regarding western women relocating to Saudi would be appreciated! While I have lived abroad before, this will be my first trip to your world. I am a photographer, and can't wait to get my equipment out! Your show was a very positive influence on our accepting the position in Saudi, and gave my family a bit of comfort. Thank you for portraying it as it really is, not as our media would have everyone think. I am very interested in where I could purchase my own "aqua abaya", as I love to snorkel and dive! Would love to hear from you!

Hello Danya,
I'm a white girl from seattle who fell pretty damn head over heels for a saudi man and married him last April! He had to go home only 2 weeks after we got married in a very small ceremony, and much of my extended family didn't get a chance to meet him. Now that we're having awful immigration issues and it's taking forever to get him back into the country, my family has started getting extra fussy about this "terrorist" I shacked up with. I'm SO glad you won the challenge to have Anthony come to Saudi Arabia. My parent's TIVO'd episode has been shown to most of my family, and has given insight into where this amazing man came from, instead of the place they have conjured up in their fox-news'd minds. And I didn't know that most saudis have such a killer sense of humor! My husband makes me laugh harder than anyone I've ever met, and that's saying something. I really value the humor in the culture I was able to see. BOTTOM LINE. Thank you, Danya, for helping my family to understand my husband, and giving them less of a reason to be afraid, and more of a reason to be excited and curious about this new addition to the family. And, if he reads this, thank you, Anthony, for not being a wusslette and heading to Buffalo. Good choice on the saudi arabia. looking forward to eating albaik someday! --emily-- |
