Recently I took the amtrak Coast Starlight from Santa Barbara to Seattle. It was 33 hours each way but well worth the trip. You will see some amazing views and scenery from the train and it's a pretty comfortable way to travel. I highly recommend everyone try the Amtrak sometime it's a fun experience.

I can't agree more! I took a round-Amtrak-trip from LA to San Francisco last winter and it was great! I got to see the ocean and the mountains. I believe the view is even more gorgeous in Spring. Now I'm all pumped up to take my second Amtrak trip - along the East Coast this time, from Atlanta to Albany, NY! It'll be a 20 hour trip but it'll definitely be awesome!

I drove from Richmond, VA to Los Angeles, CA last spring. I had been up and down the east coast but never been farther west than the edge of Virginia. Once I hit Texas and the land started to become flat I was so freaked out because I had never seen flat land before. I'm used to my hills and mountains of VA. My favorite part of the drive was New Mexico and especially Albuquerque. That drive was so beautiful because I had never seen the desert. I think everyone should take a cross-trip sometime to see all that America has to offer from the deserts to the mountains to the cities to the green trees.
