For those interested in rockhounding in various parts of New Mexico I have some places that may be of interest. The following are just a few of the places in which I have been:
1. Dona Ana County - Near Santa Teresa, TX (Kilbourne Hole) 2. Organ (Organ Mining District) 3. Las Cruces (Bishop Cap Ranch, Robledo Mountains) 4. Deming (Rockhound State Park, South Canyon, Cookes Peak, Fluorite Ridge) 5. Silver City (Bear Mountain) 6. Radium Springs (throughout) 7. Upham (Actually County Road E072) 8. Rincon (Rincon Querry) 9. Hatch (Hatch Dam Road) 10. Truth or Consequences (Area by the Eastern Radio Tower) 11. Bingham (Blanchard Claims) 12. HW 152 (entire stretch to Hillsboro) 13. Kingston (Kingston Mining District) 14. Lake Valley (area outside the town) 15. The Gila National Forest (throughout the National Park....no digging, surface collecting only)
As stated above, these are only a few places in which I have rockhounded. There are in fact others which special permission is needed in which I have. As of this date I have found over 37 different types of rocks, minerals, and fossils. If you would like additional information please feel free to email me at joseph_mork@yahoo.com.
