Fairburn Agate is a beautiful banded agate found in South Dakota. Choice finds can be made into beautiful jewlery that will catch anybody's attention. The pit is free and opened to the public.

Yes, Fairburn agate is called that because of where it is; Fairburn, S. Dakota. It is south of Rapid City about 20 or 30 miles, a very small town. Look on your map. If you aren't familar with Fairburn agate it would be helpful to you to look it up on the internet so you will have an idea of what you will be looking for. I will see if I can find a web site and post it for you later. Plan a full day at the site and bring shovels and buckets and of course, plenty of water for drinking and washing the rocks. Good luck hunting for these gems and have fun.

The agate beds in Fairburn are pretty much picked over. There are places around there to find Fairburn agates (I have), but a show going to the agate beds would likely end up with not finding anything.
