Hi Guys,
Just curious if the Mek people were interested in any of our customs and way of life. Were they open to any modern conveniences to make their life better or easier? They are most likely strict when it comes to tradition.

Thanks, Julie

Hi Julie

Apart from a few isolated incidences the Mek didn't show a huge interest in our lives or the outside world. I have found this to be the case in all the most remote indigenous communities I have encountered. It may be because they have little idea of what to ask about, or because they do not want to appear as ignorant as they might feel. It may also be because they are just not conditioned, as we are, to have an interest in anything outside their own lives. They are not, as we are, showered with information about other people and places therefore are unlikely to have devoted much thought to such matters.
As for modern conveniences, we had little with us that was of the slightest use to the Mek, apart from our clothes and the knives and machetes we carried.

Thanks for watching.
