What sort if any type of hygeine did the mek have

More specifically, what do the women do when they have their "monthly visitor"? It was discussed as a difficulty for women to be in the crew, but what do the women in the village do? Was that something that Mark or Olly were ever able to learn about, or is it kept "hush hush" like in my grandmother's day? I have experienced a culture where EVERYONE knows when a young girl has her first period and she must follow rules during the first year like not swimming, flying, always being covered outdoors - longsleeves and hood. Do the Mek have any rights of passage like that for the women?

Did anyone see if they took baths while they were there? Did Mark and Ollie take any soap and toiletries? What was Mark and Ollie suppose to learn walking around with their thing in a gourd?
