For those (few) griping about the "indecency" of the Mek people's TV exposure: I grew up in Papua New Guinea (the other half of the Island of West Papua,) so I know all about the dress (or lack thereof) and culture of the national people. I commend the Travel Channel for the fantastic job they are doing by bringing these otherwise unknown people, places and cultures to our attention. And yes, it is very educational. Without programs like this, my children would never catch a glimpse of what I saw as "everyday life." National nudity is completely normal in many parts of the world, and it is only after we "foreigners" make them feel uncomfortable that some of these people find it necessary to cover up.

When I was a child, my parents hired a young man from a local village to help with chores. One day he disappeared for a while, and returned with his new bride, who was wearing her traditional costume...NOTHING but colorful beads around her neck. My mother quickly produced a dress for her, which she obediently put on. It took a while, but she eventually started to "fit" into OUR culture. However, whenever we visited HERS, or other native villages, we could expect to see them wearing next to nothing. It was completely natural, and it was THEIR way. I never saw their (lack of) dress as indecent or pornographic. I do remember thinking how silly they must think my family and I looked covered up from head to toe in the tropical sun!

As a card carrying nudist I get a chuckle out of people being "horrified" by nudity. Western society has placed such a sense of shame on us. It is certainly refreshing to see a society that thinks nothing of it.

nudity.... what can i say? personally I wouldn't feel comfortable being nude in front of just anyone, but then again I was raised in a society makes one feel ashamed and self-conscience of their body. If it's in a pure way, the way the MEK live or other similar tribes, there is no shame. Most westerners look at it in a sexual way because of the way they were raised. It's because of this that women are uncomfortable breastfeeding in public, something that's perfectly natural. Honestly, I didn't see their nudity as offensive at all. However, I was envious of some of the girls breasts and wishing mine looked that way again... children and gravity, what an enemy. LOL
