I'm sorry I have to bring this up here, but I'm unable to view public profiles on here or PM anyone. Can someone tell me how I go about setting up this feature. It has something to do with Permissions, but I can't get it to work. I can't PM the mods either. Frown

Don't bother. We've been asking for over a year for those capabilities and nada so far.

Makes sense, with the often volatile opinions the subject of the paranormal brings up, that the features would be off so we don't abuse each other with insults and derogatory comments. Wink

If you are new to this forum you wouldn't really understand but anyone who was witness to the wars between the Derek believers and the skeptics...that's a good example of why the features aren't available.

Heck, if ya have something to say and the opinion is of a strong nature...say it. Just do it respectfully.

Yes, this is true. Some members have made some very rude and offensive comments in the past. Personally, I found some of the things these people said very upsetting.

Unlike talking with someone in-person or on the telephone, care must especially be taken when e-mailing because it can be misinterpreted or come on too strong.

Most Haunted Forum Members have a terrific sense of humor and enjoy a lively discussion which sometimes is debating about Most Haunted programs or MH team members, but the key is to keeping it tasteful and not turning it into an assault.

Yes, there are strong opinions, but unless you are rude or like some, make uncalled for comments, it's a very nice bunch. Heck, we've got people coming over from the Livingtv forum.

We'd LOVE to have pm's, as mod_ben very well knows Wink, but it's been so long since we asked we've kind of forgot about it.

The thing, I could never figure out is....
Why, bother to come here, if you want to be offensive to other's. I mean, if you do not believe in this! Please, keep your sharply rude comments to yourself!!
We all have our own opinions and many are skeptic, but treat other's like they where you family! Then, there is no way you can go wrong!

The problem, yendis, is that many people confuse blunt honesty with rudeness.

Over on the Most Haunted-The Series: Share Your Stories board there are a couple of regulars who are forever being beat up by newbies because they hold that ghosts are not souls who remained on this level but rather dark forces at work.

I've had knock down drag out debates with one of them, butted heads and argued with her and in the process have come to call her my friend.

She is a person of faith and her religous teachings tell her one thing and that is what she believes.

I can respect that and after all, who is to say which one of us is wrong?

Some people believe in one direction or the other so strongly that they will brook no arguments to the contrary. The problems arise when they are to ignorant to afford others the same right to their opinion as they demand for themselves.

And there lies the crux of the whole paranormal debate. There are no right or wrong answers because no one, and I mean NO ONE, knows for certain what is happening. It is all just opinion when you get right down to it.

Hear, hear on that comment about the right to one's opinion. In some cases (like the paranormal and the divine) there is just no way of knowing or proving who's right, and in all probability no one is completely.

In other situations, there genuinely is a correct answer, empirically provable, indisputable with reason or evidence, but that doesn't stop people from disputing it. THIS IS OK. Everyone has the right to be wrong. In fact, sometimes refusing to see the truth in front of their eyes is the only way people can reconcile their world view and avoid a heavy crisis of identity. Sympathy and understanding is called for there, not acrimony.
