Yeah, I've been there... and I would recommend it, for sure. There is very high security, so you don't have to worry about people sneaking onto the property, and 'messing' with you, or contaminating your experience. The staff is very good.
You've got to remember... there is no schedule to go by... paranormal stuff follows no schedule... and if it happened regularly... we'd hear about it much more, and it's likely there would be much more 'scientific research' on the subject, because they'd be able to rely on when, where, and how the paranormal events would/will happen. As it is... count yourself lucky if you ever experience anything more than your imagination. If you want to go to Waverly... go! just realize... you shouldn't go with 'expectations'. Because, no matter what happens, you may be disappointed... unless you don't expect anything to happen.
When I was there, they offered two different 'tours'... one-half night (4 hours) and a full night (8 hours). To be honest, you'll be so bushed after four hours, you'll be glad to get back to your motel room. Each group has a guide... and no one is allowed to leave the group. If you need to go to the restroom, they will send someone to escort you there, and back. This keeps people from sneaking-off and doing anything... or, from getting lost. There are video cams all over the place... so, all key areas are monitored by security.
They are in the process of refurbishing the entire building (last I heard, to make it a true, haunted, bed-&-breakfast kinda thing, where investigations can be done all the time). That's what the fees are for... to pay for all of the renovations.). When I was there, parts of the first floor were under 're'-construction... and there's years-worth of work to be done. The roof leaks, leaving puddles of water in the 4th floor halway. One VERY interesting thing about that... it is said that some of the ghosts (most likely, children) are quite 'playful', and some may use this puddle of water to communicate. I watched with disbelief when we would use our hands to spread the water from the puddle onto dry concrete to 'write messages'... and the water would disappear nearly immeadiately. I expect the concrete to absorb some of the water, and for some of it to evaporate... but not this quickly. I could see it happening after many minutes, or leass than an hour... but not within seconds. There's not enough wind to account for the water to exaporate that quickly.
Also, one of the children will often 'play ball'. In fact, Waverly usually keeps a childs inflatable ball there, so people can expeiment... (you can bring your own if you want). But- rolling the ball down the hall, will often result in the ball coming back to you. But not always. It's not any breeze... nor is the floor slanted... nor is there anyone playing tricks. For us, it worked a couple of times, then- it just stopped. The people in each group are allowed to roam and explore the entire floor you are on... (as long as you stay on that floor). So people in your group can fan-out (as in the rolling ball example), and cover it from all angles. You start off entering thru the basement... and then, each group (there may be several each night) spread out to different floors and areas, to prevent cross-contamination. The night we were there, we found no activity... no visuals at all. But I did come back with three very good EVP's... so keep your recorders/camcorders rolling. I recorded a deep breath that sounded like it was right next to me... within inches of the mic (but it wasn't me, or anyone in my group. I didn't hear it at the time. Nor did I hear what sounds like a 'bored' kid, making a "ooOOooo...OooOoOO..ooOOoooOO" type of vocal sound. (It reminds me of one of an old Tarzan movies... Cheetah making the same kind of sound.) None of our group heard this... (we would have told the person to be quiet!!)... and, it happened OVER some of our conversations... and none of us heard it. Plus... it was definitely a child's voice... but there were no children in our group, or even on the grounds that night, at ALL. I was specifically looking for 'shadow people'. I was armed with two camcorders, and a voice recorder. I brought with me precut pieces of reflective vinyl that I could stick on doorways at strategic locations down the halls. I'd then go to the end of the hall, and use the IR-booster array to flood the hallway. Reflective vinyl relects infrared, as well as visible light. My hope was that if a 'shadow person' (or any person) was to cross the hall, from one door to another, I could tell which door(s), because of the different colors of vinyl I brought. My idea worked perfectly... except... we didn't experience any shadow people... only real people. Still, it worked. I can't say that I'd go back thru the 'Death Tunnel' again.... not that it was scary, or that we picked-up anything. It's just that, if you walk down that incline to the bottom, and back... you're gonna be bushed! I would have to say, the areas I would look at specifically would be around the morgue, 3rd, 4th, and the 5th fl. offices & roof. I'd make a quick walk-thru of each area... then pick a location, and sit. People who do that seem to catch more than those who are constantly roaming, or so I'm told. I definetly believe Waverly is haunted... from the EVP's I got... (and I know about the authenticity of my own EVP's)... from the numbers of others who have captured evidence (including TAPS)... and, simply because over 63,000 people died in that building... including the nurse suicide, and the old homeless dude, and his dog... found dead at the bottom of the elevator shaft. Some have seen him (and his dog) in the halls. Anyway- go... do it! It's worth the time, trouble, and bucks. But make sure you take a Sony camcorder with IR nightvision. Sony is the only brand of camcorder with IR. The rest are 'low light', which means they depend on ambient light, and don't give good results... esp. if you're moving.
