Hyères-les-Palmiers and Presqu'île de Giens. They are gorgeous, exactly what one would hope for Provence. Stayed in two rental houses with family (www.lunedeniel.com; http://www.holidaylettings.co....entals/hyeres/89410). There is a fantastic market (can't remember the day) with food vendors and Provençal crafts. On Giens, a wonderful restaurant called Lou Calabrun (http://www.myspace.com/restaurant_lou_calabrun). Fresh local bass cooked whole with rosemary, garlic, olive oil, and filleted tableside. Had a baked gnocchi and spice-crusted lamb chop dish, also great. SNCF rail station in Hyères (same line as Nice), or Toulon-Hyères Airport (flights from Orly).
