Yah, definitely come back to the City. But while your're here, check out the rest of the BAY! SF has its own trip (ie/ Chinatown, Nob Hill, Union Square, Little Italy, bars, lounges, restaurants, bridges, etc). I think the show is a great vehicle to delve into the underbelly of the city. You just need the guidance.
While here you might as well check out what else the bay has to offer:
East Bay Oakland - a beautiful city with its triumphs and challenges. Berkely - sister to Haight Ashbury in the counterculture movement (and crazy college town) Fremont - Home to large communtiy of Indo Americans and Afgan nationals. Both communities crossing all strata of the socio-economic lines. Also has Buddahnusorn Temple and their celebration of Thai culture. Union City - tight Portuguese community with really big feshta and crab feeds.
Peninsula Expensive Housing Stanford and the college scene East Palo Alto - Palo Alto's stepsister and their struggles.
South Bay Silicon Valley! Notably the Yahoo and Google cafeterias offer meals that rival good restaurants. San Jose - Largest Vietnamese community co existing with large Hispanic/Latino community. Home to largest Flea Market and food court that would rival anything overseas. Also has one of the remaining Japantowns in the US. Many people who were interned still live and maintain property here. Santa Clara - Huge Korean population. Traffic - rivals L.A. Milpitas and Cupertino - growing Asian population. Almost rivals Vancouver, BC. Large Filipino popluations in Milpitas, Union City, and Daly City. Many Filipino restaurants are making the transition to fine dining and their is growing debate among Filipinos on what is truly Filipino food.
The Bay has its own unique activities: Martial Arts - MMA fighters Ken Shamrock and up and coming Cung Le are based here. Also Ernie Reyes of Ninja Turtle fame is here as well as Tat Mau Wong.
Forget Sailing - its all about paddling sports...Dragon Boat racing and Hawaiian Outrigger. SF hosts the biggest dragon boat race in the nation on Treasure Island and the WaveChaser series hosts the biggest small boat races in the outrigger world. The dragonboat and outrigger races food scene rivals the best tailgate parties.
Hawaiian/Pacific Islander Culture - huge scene. Many festivals.
The list goes on...
You just gotta come here and check it out!
