i've been twice and it is exotic historical, a little dangerous and an amazing meld of new world and old. Amman at dusk, in the souk, with the fragrance of spices and food coking is sublime. The best pizza in amman is a show in itself. jerash is ancient ruins with incredible visuals. and petra, well, spielburg used it as the locale for the third act of indiana jones and the last crusade. it's breathtaking. of course this is where lawrence of arabia lived, in jordan, i actually stood in his bedroom. finally aqaba is a beautiful resort where you can see 5 countries. you can swim to israel. it'd be a great show. and jordan is very american friendly, although it is primarily palestinian. many refugee camps. but the people can be warm and inviting.
