iquitos, Peru is the largest city in the world that you can not physically drive to. it is in the middle of the amazon jungle located in northern peru. The population is at least 400,000 people so it is a very large city. The only way to acess this city in by boat on the amazon river through the jungle or by airplane. The city has a long history and was a major as well as rich city during the rubber boom in the late 1800's and early 1900's. There are many things to do within the city as well as in the surrounding jungle. Barrio Belen has possibly the largest market in all of Peru possibly even South America. I have visited this city 12 times in the last 10 years. I have done business in the city as well as having many family members still living in Iquitos. One fun fact is that they have a bar, The Yellow Rose of Texas, dedicated to the U of Texas Longhorns that was voted best sports bar in Peru by Sports Illustated. One visit and I promise you will fall in love.
