So, you guys f@#$ed up Romania, no worries, there's still plenty of Eastern Europe for you to do right! How about Hungary? They've got great food, strong flavors, deep influence on European Cuisine, sinister forests, and a gun-crazed hunting culture associated with the dispossessed nobility. Not to mention plenty of good Cold-War-Era Spies, and great music!
Ever wonder why we call capsicum "red pepper"? Thanks to Hungary! During a war between Venice and the Turks, the supply of black pepper from Indonesia was cut off temporarily. Instead Europeans started substituting it with paprika, a spicy red capsicum powder from Hungary, which adopted the chili as a seasoning from China. Thus New World chili entered Europe from the East, and got miss-labeled "pepper."
Eccentric locals? Check! Great food? Check! Relatively lax laws regarding things like speed limits and gun control? Check! Scortching booze? Check! What more do you need for a good episode of No Reservations?
Also, since Tony is a writer, he should be able to appreciate one of Europe's richest literary traditions, even if it is criminally over-looked in the English speaking world.
