The upper peninsula of Michigan is the most unique area of the country. They have their own yooper dialect, customs and cuisine. This part of the state is twice the size of New Jersey yet only has 300,000 inhabitants, largely of Finnish decent. The main economy of the U.P. remains logging and mining. The U.P. was acquired during the Toledo War (thanks Ohio! Go Blue) but they would like to be their own state called "Superior" or just desert to Canada. It also has one of the most beautiful natural wonders at Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. holy Wah! Take it from me, a troll, (I live under the Mackinaw Bridge) the U.P. is unlike anywhere else in the U.S. Come visit!
