My favorite place to eat in Mexico City was Gilli Pollo (on Cinco de Mayo about 2-3 blocks from the Zocalo). They serve the best roasted chicken, potatos and corn tortillias. The place is always busy and there is a row of stools just off the side walk - if you are lucky you can sit at the stools and watch the world go by.

Close by is a great place to pick up a fresh empanada.

Hello good citizens of all the world, my personal food recollection begins in Coyoacan mexico city. I happened to be in this comfotable blue collar suberb of this huge city when I saw from a distance a sign that said Union Copa. I stopped and recieved the authentic real out of this world traditional menu that only a restaurant can have in such a bautiful city. I was amazed at the authenticity for food destination for Travel Channel; where corn tortillas were made by an old world beauty in her seventies producing the classic staple corn tortillas. What a difference in quality, nothing better than having the real tortilla hand-made not to mention the price which for an American, was very affordable. I loved the food; authentic pig brain gorditas, to verde queso authentic enchiladas. The real cuisine is very very nice like flowers of the country. I am always repeating that the food is the trinity of mexico city like all who know Jalepeno, onion, and tomato produce the colores of God. The Union Copa in Coyoacan. After that, Andrew Zimmerman or even Anthony Bordain would appreciate the specialties that the restaurant represents. Thank God for this wonderful food scene that I discovered.

Because I do live in Mexico City, in the Condesa for those who didn't guess it from my screen name, one of the few down sides is not being able to see this show in real time.
But I do believe that I would have bested Tony and David Lida when it came to the best taqueria in town.
You can read and see the pictures from my blog report on Pastorcito Boturini at

Read it and weep, Tony. Next time call me.
