my husband and i are going to rome in april. we'll only be in rome for 5 days, and want to be sure we see all the sights! we've never been to italy, and are really considering one one-day-trip, but don't know where to go!! suggestions??? we've heard pompeii. we've heard florence. we've heard to just stay put and enjoy rome. which option do we choose?? help!!
If you have only one day for a side trip, I would just stay in Rome. After you see all of the "must sees" explore the side streets between Trevi and the Pantheon. Walk through Trastevere (south of the Vatican) at a leisurely pace. Eat in small cafes. Rome is so amazing, that I wouldn't exhaust myself with a quick side trip. Just a suggestion...make sure that you sample lots of gellato!
Hi Deborah, since you sound like a person who knows whats she is talking about maybe you can answer this question that I also posted under "Passport to Europe".
My Boyfriend and I want to go to Europe in Sept 2009. The problem is, we can't decide if we should go on a cruise or to travel by land? We have had so many people to tell us yes go on a cruise and we had finally decided to go on a 7-day Royal Caribbean Cruise from Barcelona, Spain traveling to Italy, in Rome, Naples, Florence/Pisa, then to France, in Nice, Provence, then back to Barcelona, Spain. Then people from my boyfriend's work told him "No don't go a o a cruise you feel rushed on a cruise" so now we are really tossed on what to do!? So does anyone have any thoughts on to go on a Cruise or not go on a to Cruise?
I think that you'll enjoy the cruise. You only have to unpack once, and it's a great way to control the cost of the trip. You might want to consider some extra days in Italy and Barcelona at each end of the cruise. That way you can have a little more "in depth" time in two of the most amazing cities in Europe. Rome and Barcelona are great destinations on their own. I hope you have a great trip!
