“Circumnavigating Taiwan on a Scooter”

I feel like I lived your show for almost 6 months in 2008 (Seven trips to Taiwan and 3 to Shanghai, China). During a few of these trips I spent up to 5 weeks at a time in Taiwan, and in China 2 weeks at a time.
I watched your Taiwan, episode after I returned home to the US, and without realizing it at the time, I ate, drank, and visited some of the same places you highlighted in your shows.....
I sat in front of the TV and shouted out load ......”Hey…. I've been there and I ate that”
Your show also gave my friends and family the rare chance to actually see where I spent so much of my life last year, and for that I could never thank you enough..... xie xie........

Renting a scooter in Taipei was always the highlight of all my trips....I would even ride it to work.
It gave me the freedom to could go anywhere, at anytime, to do what ever I wanted.
My goal was to stay long enough to “Circumnavigate Taiwan on a Scooter” experiencing everything from a local perspective.
But the reality of it is…… I was there for work........... and the timing was never right.

So if you’re ever looking for another excuse for “No Reservations” to return Taiwan.................Call me There is a lot more to see you only touched the surface of Tawian....
..........I think “Circumnavigating Taiwan on a Scooter” would be a real cool idea a No Reservations episode.

When was Tony in Taiwan? I remember seeing a Bizarre Foods episode filmed there but not a NR one. I lived there from 2000-2003 (I worked in Hsinchu) and have visited dozens of times since then, since my wife's family is from Miaoli but is now scattered from Taipei to Taichung.

Have they started selling electric scooters there yet? I hear China is moving in that direction. It'd be nice to see Taiwan do the same and clean up the air, especially in Taipei.

It's very possible I'm thinking of “BF” episode, but I thought I remember someone ( I though it was Tony) visiting the "Jurassic Restaurant" on Bade Rd. Sec. 2 in Taipei in one episode last year.

Anyway, I really think “Tony on a Scooter” Touring/Riding around the island of Taiwan would be a great idea for a “NR” show

When I was in China (April 09) they said the Gov. has "outlawed" the sale of new gas scooters. 90% of commuters I saw riding around in China were on elec. Scooter/Bicycles.

Elec. Scooters...in Taiwan....”No Way”.. (at least not according to my Taiwanese friends)
There still are scooter repair shops on every street corner........

I believe the main reason Taiwan is resisting electric scooters is that the gas powered ones are MIT, so they are protecting a homegrown industry. Incidentally, MIT (Made in Taiwan) is what Americans born in Taiwan call themselves. Their kids born here say they are "disoriented". Smile
