St. Louis is really a bunch of neighborhoods, each with its own character. There are some great restaurants/bars in all of them. I would suggest visitors check out:
The Central West End (Euclid roughly from Forest Park Parkway to Delmar) - several lovely blocks of shops and restaurants on street level in historic neighborhood - lots of sidewalk eating/drinking. Good sushi at SubZero. Wonderful selection of vodkas as well. Koppermann's is a great deli. Never had a bad meal at Duff's. Llwellyn's (right off Euclid I think on McPherson) has a great cheesesteak and I also love their mini burgers topped with fried onions and hot pepper cheese sauce. The Delmar Loop is also loaded with fun bars and restaurants (Delmar roughly between Skinker and McCausland). Tons of great asian places. Riddles Wine Bar serves dishes prepared with locally grown produce - peach chicken is my favorite, but not always available. Also like the Cajun cavatelli with crawfish. Cicero's has a decent pizza and one of the best beer selections I've ever seen. Grand South Grand (roughly Grand between Arsenal and Gravois) is a little rougher than the West End or the Loop, but is also fun. My favorite late night club is on the second floor above Mekong restaurant - Upstairs Lounge. Its hard to find, but well worth it. DJs play obscure dance music with different music different nights of the week. Absolutely Goosed is a great place for a "martini" (various vodka drinks straight up in a martini glass) and plate of stuffed olives. Good sushi at Sekisui and my favorite St. Louis style pizza is at an Irish pub down Arsenal street just east of Grand - Riley's Pub. Washington Avenue downtown has numerous bars/clubs and some restaurants. For fine dining, I don't think An American Place can be beat. Spectacular dining room with soaring ceilings and architectural features. Food is beautifully prepared and presented. Used to have a fixed price three course meal that was quite a bargain. Mosaic is also a fine choice - less formal and less pricey. We've had nice brunches (good bloody marys too) at Lucas Park Grille. Two of my favorite bars are on Washington - the Dubliner and Kitchen K though I wouldn't necessarily recommend eating at either place. Soulard is a neighborhood south of downtown, but north of Anheuser Busch brewery. There is not one main strip per se where the bars/restaurants are located, rather they are all over the place. Most are VERY casual blues-oriented bars with bar type food leaning towards New Orleans/cajun type food. Many have outdoor dining - courtyards or sidewalk cafes. I like Norton's for brunch (off the menu - good bloodies). Gorgeous courtyard/patio. Hammerstones is a fun bar as is McGurk's. Both again have lovely bricked in courtyards. There are other neighborhoods and many more restaurants/bars I could recommend in St. Louis, but I'd like to hear from other people. Enjoy this little traveled, but very interesting Midwestern city. |

The best place by far is the Lemp Mansion Restaurant. I love the family style fried chicken dinner that they serve on sundays from 11am to I think it's 7pm. Another good place is the venice cafe. Both in the Benton Park neighborhood.

All sound great, and here's another place. The Iron Barley Cafe is located south of the A/B Brewery on Virginia Ave. north of the interstate. It is a small place that was featured on the Food Network and has AMAZING grub.
