We are planning our Honeymoon for next year and are quite stumped as to where to go . . . we know that we don't want to go to 'typical' honeymoon spots like the Caribbean (no offense to anyone! Smile but just somewhere that is a little off the beaten track, not too far flight-wise from NYC - we were thinking Belize? and beachy (and no kids preferably) Thanks! Roll Eyes

Well, I must tell you that my recommendation is absolutely nothing you specify you want. But, I spent mine there, and trust me...one word...FANTASTIC.

My wife and I went to Aruba and spent a week at a fantastic resort called the Bucuti. Check it out at www.bucuti.com. It is on the widest stretch of beach on Aruba, and is very private and secluded. It is the only hotel on Aruba that does NOT have activities planned for kids. It's not a "couples-only resort", but may as well be.

Beautiful white-sand beaches disappear into azure-colored water. It's hot there, as it is actually a desert island, but most days there's a breeze of 20-30 mph. The resort gives you a flag when you come out of your room to go to your choice of thatched "tiki" umbrellas on the beach. If you need ANYTHING (something to eat, drink, etc), you put the flag in the sand and the hotel sends someone to fill your order.

I also suggest the romantic dinner on the beach that is included in their honeymoon package. You sit next to the water by candlelight, and they bring you 7 courses and a bottle of wine or champagne.

80% of Aruba's current income is from tourism. So, they are VERY friendly to tourists and welcome them with open arms. In fact, there are even government representatives whose job it is to provide you with information and "gift bags" when you arrive. There are some WORLD CLASS (read: not cheap), restaurants down there if you'd like to indulge your inner connoisseur. But, there's plenty of regular fare as well(Subway, McDonalds, chain stores, etc).

Shopping is duty-free in many locations, and if you're a cigar smoker, there are literally ACRES of humidors offering the finest Castro has to offer.

It's QUITE nice. Try a Balashi beer while you're down there, it's made by the Dutch brewers of Heineken right there on the island and is only available there.

I hope you'll consider this, as it it WELL worth it. And, as they say in the native language of Papiamento....."Bon Bini"....or, good day!

It's a good idea to ask yourself what kind of activities you are interested in whether it be hiking, horseback riding and other adventurous activities, getting to know the culture and city, food & wine, or simply a relaxing by the beach. Personally, I went to Bora Bora which was absolutely breathtaking and so relaxing, but you can do everthing there is to do in about 3 or 4 days and then it gets boring. It is mostly a romantic place where honeymooners can relax while experiencing the culture and food. Belize sounds like a good idea where you can probably do most if not all what is mentioned above, however a few of my friends have been to Chile, (although it is further from NY) and loved it. Also another place you should check out , even though there is no beach, is a resort in Costa Rica called Tabacon where they have the most gorgeous hot springs and lush rainforest. Anyway, the really best way to decide is to pick out 2 or 3 locations and compare them with reviews online. Roll Eyes

I know it's a far plane flight, but we went to Tahiti as well. Absolutely breath-taking! We stayed at Le Taha'a Private Island Resort and Spa. It's on the island of Taha'a VERY secluded as most people go to Bora Bora. 5 Star resort with all the ammenities one looks for in Tahiti and more. The resort is on it's own motu (small island) and you can take free boat trips back and forth to the main island of Taha'a to see a vanilla plantation or a black pearl farm. Here is the link to their site. Le Taha'a
I have been to the Bahamas...Tahiti is more amazing hands down! An unforgettable experience!!!

We planned our honeymoon through Hilary at WAC Travel - and it went so smoothly - it was amazing! We loved Australia and New Zealand - but actually Queenstown was our favorite place, despite being cold!

Hilary told me they have just started a new sale website http://www.tortribe.com - check them out! You will be very happy you did...

Correct me if I'm wrong, Bora Bora Lagoon Resort is considered one of the hot honeymoon destinations in the world by Travel Channel. this location is coveted for its super-private bungalows that are perched on stilts over the crystal-clear waters. Imagine, couples can escape to a private island.
