Sams Introduction "Welcome to the pearl of the Great Lakes, the beautiful Island of Mackinaw Island and the Mackinaw Straits! And sitting on the island the awesome splender of the Grand Hotel!"
Personally, I think you shouldn't overlook this wonderful place! I have a blast everytime I'm hear! Four hour drive for me! How many other Mid-Westreners agree with me?

I agree with you! I've never been there, but I've been to the Island before. Just looking at the Grand Hotel takes your breathe away. I haven't been to the Island since I was liitle, but I remember just being in awe of The Grand Hotel! I'm a native Michiganian.

I agree as well. Almost all of the people on this forum who have been there love it. They've never led me in the wrong direction, so i dont think sam would be dissapointed either!

Ok I'm from Michigan but for sure The "Grand Hotel" on Mackinac Island is an American gemstone, it's romantic, classical and grand in both summer and winter, positioned high on a hillside overlooking the great lakes. The film "Somewhere In Time" with Christopher Reeve and Jane Seymour was made at the Grand. There are lots of recreational activities for families. The scenery looks something like the Carmel-Monterey area of California, not quite as dramatic but pretty close. With few exceptions there aren't any cars on the island. Travel is by bicycle, horse drawn carriage and foot..a small airport is on the island. and several new summer season wineries are nearby.
