I visited a GREAT hotel this summer in Stowe, Vermont. Green Mountain Inn was built in the 1800s and has recently been renovated. It's a beautiful red and green inn that sits on a corner on Main Street in downtown Stowe. I had never been to New England before and found Stowe to be quite charming. Even though it is a ski town (often referred to as the Ski Capital of the East), there are a lot of outdoor activities during the summer. Not to mention that just a few minutes from Stowe is the Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream factory - a must see! The Von Trapp Family Lodge is there in Stowe as well - just beautiful! This town is a MUST see.
