I'm not sure if you have ever featured this hotel, but I have not seen it and it didn't turn up in "search" either.

It is The Jekyll Island Club Hotel on Jekyll Island, GA and it is fabulous!

It was originally built as a winter retreat for the Vanderbilts, Morgans, Crane's etc. and it has been exquisitely restored.

It was also used as a location in "The Legend of Bagger Vance" and some other films.

Check it out and you won't be disappointed. It is one of our favorite historic resorts.

Also, The Richmond Hill Inn in Asheville, NC is an excellent bed and breakfast too!

The Davenport Hotel in little known Spokane WA has an interesting history. Spokane isn't much of a destination city, but the hotel is quite a gem.

The Westin in Greenville, SC, as well as the Westin in LA are awesome!! The one in Greenville is in an awesome area with plenty of stuff to see and do, and it so gorgious inside too. The one in LA has a great gym, pool, comfy beds, and a cosy chair in the rooms to die for that you can stretch out and just fall asleep in.

Finca Rosa Blanca Inn
http://www.finca-rblanca.co.cr/
Type: Suburban

Class: Deluxe Boutique
This is absolutely the most beautiful, unique Inn in which we have ever stayed.
Situated high above Costa Rica's beautiful Central Valley, and nestled amid ten acres of towering trees, exotic flora and coffee plantations, the Finca Rosa Blanca Inn offers an eclectic theme reminiscent of the architectural spirit of Spain's Gaudí, and the open free-form design of the American southwest. The Inn's décor includes lustrous hardwood accents, vivid jungle murals painted by talented local artisans, pre-Columbian artifacts, contemporary paintings and wood sculptures, beautiful weavings and a host of unique furnishings and art objects. The Inn offers an extraordinary master suite, three elegant yet whimsical junior suites, two spacious villas, and three uniquely appointed double rooms, each with its own private veranda. The spectacular hillside, spring fed infinity pool provides luxuriant relaxation, and is surrounded by tropical gardens, secluded decks and shaded verandas where guests can sunbathe and enjoy the magnificent vistas. Indulge in sumptuous nouvelle Costa Rican cuisine, prepared with care and creativity from the bounty of the Inn's fruit orchards and organic vegetable and herb garden. It's all waiting for you - at the enchanting Finca Rosa Blanca Inn.

"Finca Rosa Blanca is one of Costa Rica’s
-nay, the world’s!- preeminent boutique hotels, opened in 1989.
Inspired by Gaudí’s architectonics and the Santa Fe style,
the hotel is conceived as if from a fairy tale. Qué linda!”
Moon Handbooks: Costa Rica by Christopher P. Baker

"An absolutely divine hotel, on a bluff overlooking the Central Valley.
Probably one of the best hotels in the world"
Footprint, Costa Rica Handbook, 2003 Cool

Hello, I am a huge fan of all Samantha Brown's shows. I would love to see Samantha visit the Mount Washington Hotel & Resort at Bretton Woods in her native NH. Being a NH native myself, it is one of the most breath-taking resorts I have seen. Nestled in the Mount Washington Valley, this resort takes you back in time as you enjoy this grand masterpiece of Spanish Renaissance architecture. The Mount Washington Hotel was a two-year labor of love for 250 master craftsmen. Conceived by industrialist Joseph Stickney, this National Historic Landmark opened in 1902 and immediately became a favorite summer haunt for poets, presidents and princes.

I think it would be great to segment this hotel with Samantha!
Another hotel I would love to see visited is the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island in Michigan where the beloved move, "Somewhere in Time" was filmed. This hotel is beautiful and so unique. There are still no cars allowed in the island, only bikes and horses!

Definitely The Wynn Las Vegas, since they are opening up in few months...

http://www.wynnlasvegas.com/

I spoke to someone from their staff the last time I was in Las Vegas a few weeks ago. They say its AMAZING with comparable rates to the rest of the hotels, but more space per room and a LOT more restaurants than others...

I'd also like to see any of the top hotels in the Caribbean and more from Hawaii.

The Hotel Danieli - most ornate and opulent, cozy and warm, classy and sophisticated hotel i've expereinced. Being "in the industry" i've been to a lot of the hotels Sam travels to, and this one would be perfect for her.

Also, she's already been to a few of my favorites - the St. Regis Monarch beach, The Boudlers, Ritz in Carmel.

I would suggest checking out a boutique-y style hotel like the W San Francisco or the W Union Square, NY!

Lafayette,LA would be a good choice for the next season. They are renovating a building downtown to become a 20 room boutique hotel, with each room having its own theme. Lafayette has Mardi Gras, Cajun cuisine, Cajun customs, and other great things.

No Great Hotels is not over. Where did you hear that? Sam said that the series is always fun to do and that someday the Travel Channel will do th Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island! Also, I don't think the hotels on this page have been visited already by Sam. Passport to Europe may be another short series like Girl Meets Hawaii, and maybe she'll come back and do Great Hotels. It isn't over!

I would like to see the Highlands Inn in Carmel, California.

It is historic (built in 1916), on the cliffs of the ocean, a wedding destination, and a visual dream. This would make an excellent feature.

I love the travel channel shows and i think Samantha Brown is a great host.I don't quite understand the point of the Great Hotels show. The majority of us watching won't ever afford to stay in any of these places. A splurge place for me is not a $500 per night room-that's insane.
Why not show us great places to stay that are within a budget below $300 a night. Can we please have a more PRACTICAL show????

I think people just meant that it's over for now.. since she's doing a second season of passport to europe - probably another 30 eps.. she'll be away from great hotels another season. after that she may do passport to asia- and other things before coming back to great hotels- but i dont think she's closed the door all the way on it.. just taking a break to do other things.. i guess the same thing all the time can get boring for her.. so i'm sure once she's able to do some of those she'll be back to the tried and true great hotels- after all- there are still tons left that she hasnt done...

I WOULD LIKE TO SEE SAM DO A HALLOWEEN SHOW FROM DISNEY LIKE SHE DID THE CHRISTMAS SHOW. MAYBE DO A SPOOF ABOUT STAYING AT THE TOWER OF TERROR AND GO FROM THERE. LETS FACE IT, THE BEST PART OF THE SHOW IS HER SENSE OF HUMOR.

I admit I have not been to many of the great hotels other members list, but I think if the show does start filimng again, it would be an injustice not to do the Gaylord Opryland hotel in nashville,tn. It is the largest non gaming hotel in the United States, and has everything you can imagine.

Hi to the group:

I'd like to suggest a future visit to The Davenport Hotel in Spokane, Washington... the first hotel with air conditioning, a central vacuum system, housekeeping carts, folding ballroom walls and Crab Louis (named for Louis Davenport, who opened the hotel in 1914).

The contracts for the Grand Coulee Dam were signed there, as were the documents which sited the Manhattan Project nearby along the Columbia River. Neil Diamond reportedly said his stay at the Davenport Hotel was his best night ever on the road... and had the hotel ship one of its beds to his home in New York... where he presumably rests upon it still.

Check out the photo gallery... http://www.thedavenporthotel.com

I would love to see Sam do an episode on the Moderate resorts in Disney such as Port Orleans Riverside, Carribean Beach or Coronado Springs. Also it would be fun to see her in the Disney Vacation Club's Saratoga Springs. I would love to see the inside of that resort - it looks gorgeous from the outside. Also, the Kalahari in Wisconsin Dells would be fun! Sam would love the water slides. Smile

I am not from NC, but my husband and I found a real treat of a place to stay when we stayed at Harborlight Guesthouse (http://www.harborlightnc.com) in Cape Carteret. It's an intimate bed and breakfast close to the beach and a lot of historic towns. I would highly recommend it for a little R&R, especially for couples.

I don't know if you've been in Wisconsin too much, but besides anywhere in the dells, a little farther south is Lake Geneva. They have a wonderful resort called the Grand Geneva, and also on the grounds is Timber Ridge resort and Waterpark. They have everything from Golfing, to horse back riding, and a Wonderful Spa. This would definately be something I would like to see on Great Hotels. Although it's not to far from my home town, I have only stayed at Timber Ridge. I'm curious to see what the Grand Geneva part looks like.

If you're looking for an affordable weekend away, the best time to go is in the Fall/winter. My suggestion to you, and anyone else is to take a trip to Wisconsin Dells. My husband and I have stayed at numerous resorts, but by far the cheapest is Treasure Island. They have an indoor waterpark opened all year round, and we stayed in a captains suite for under $120/night. The website to go to is http://www.wisdellstreasureisland.com. Enjoy! Smile

Atlantis hotel is really cool! They have themed style suites, big enough to sleep 8 people. My husband and I stayed there in the Tropical Volcanic suite. It has a whirlpool tub big enough to hold 6 people comfortably, a big screen TV, a round bed that features bamboo poles holding the canopy up, with lights to appear as stars! We also stayed there in November, so we got the room at $150/night. It even had it's own huge balcony, and we were the only ones in our hallway. Really Cool Place to go!!!! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Bolongo Bay Beach Resort

It's a small place on the south shore of St. Thomas, United States Virgin Islands. A concierge, of sorts, there is a friend of mine who looks to me like a Samantha Brown. She thinks I'm out of my mind for thinking that. But maybe the two them could do a side-by-side and let the viewers be the judge.

The U.S. Virgin Islands offer a bit of the exotic, while retaining the benefits of U.S. jurisdiction. I did learn from my friend that they have to drive on the wrong--left--side of the road down there. British VI, I'd understand, but USVI. Oh well.
