This spring I'm going to be in a convention in San Francisco. When it's over, I'm going on vacation in Carmel by the sea, and staying two nights at the Cypress Inn owned by Doris Day. (co owner)
If you like Doris Day, you will love this Inn. They play Doris songs in the lobby, and they have a room called the "Day Room" (cute name) that show only her movies. They have afternoon tea. I'm looking forward to the beach! It is a pet friendly hotel. They give your dog/cat a treat, and a comfy blanket. I'm not bringing my pets! This is the most I ever paid for a hotel room!!It will be worth it. Sam would love it I think. I'll let you know how I like it after my trip.

Good one nunesy!

What an interesting bit of knowledge...I didn't know Doris Day co-owned an inn....Can you watch Doris Day and Rock Hudson movies in your room? I am now singing, "....another night I'm getting my fill of pillow talk." That for sure will be stuck in my head now!

Another great place I have recently discovered is the Madonna Inn in San Luis Obispo, CA. Forgive me if it's been mentioned before (and I'm too lazy to look right now, who knew work in the theatre was so extensive!) The Madonna Inn has 200 or so rooms that are each decorated with different themes and they are incredible! It's like you stepped right into a fairy tale, or another country. This inn is now on my places to see before I die list. www.madonnainn.com/

Thanks for the link mistyleann! That Inn looks lovely!
Yes, you can watch any Doris Day movie in your room. All the rooms have a DVD player, and you can pick any movie you want!
I'm amazed how many younger people like Doris Day!
Whatever Will Be Will Be.

PS. I think "Great Hotels" needs to have some brand new shows!

I've been to the Madonna Inn(and no, Madonna doesn't live there), not to stay but to get their pies. You should see the bakery! Hope you're not on a diet.

If I'm on a diet, I won't be that stay! I think of a vacation as a vacation from everything!

I agree, LPT, Great Hotels needs some new shows. And I know people think that she's done Europe twice and Latin America already so they are over, but whose to say they can't be revisited? There are so many things to see and do in a single city that seems impossible to fill in 23-30 minutes. Viva la Passports forever! Smile

And just fyi, I have been singing "Pillow Talk" several times today. Luckily my co-workers are use to it!

There are so many Great Hotels, the show could run forever! That show was so much fun, and I miss it.
It would be nice if Sam did Canada too!

You know, even though I'd prefer Samantha to host it, the idea of keeping Great Hotels going sounds fun to me. I love seeing various hotels and the amenities they offer. It'd sure beat watching the boring world of poker tournaments or useless infomercials the travel channel plays. What exactly does poker have to do with travel? Am I missing something on that? Confused

"You got a know when to hold'em, know when to fold'em, know when to walk away and know when to run."

Poker (especially Texas Hold'em), is all the rage now. You got to give people what they like...I guess. Whatever sells.

I guess that does make sense from a marketing stand point.

By the way, I'm enjoying all the music references on this thread!

Good job nunesy and lpt!

Great Hotels was my favorite, it was light hearted and classy at the same time. As for some of the other programming on the TC, don’t get me started. That Man vs Food show is about the most disgusting thing I’ve ever seen. Who came up with that idea and who watches?

Funny story about that man vs food show...I just finished watching the History Channels show on the seven deadly sins, this episode was on gluttony...turn the channel to TC and guess what I see....Man vs Food! Things that make you go "hmmmmm".

I don't really get having all the food shows on the Travel Channel either. Some seem more appropriate for the Food Network, while others I can see on the Travel Channel. Alas, I do not control TC's programming. I guess I'd be a little too biased to the TC Queen, Sam.

My stay at the Cypress was wonderful! When I have more time, I'll tell you about it.
Nothing is cheap in Carmel. The cheapest room is $150, and there is only one tiny room at that price. I had a queen standard. with tax it is $225 a night! This is the most expensive hotel I've ever stayed in! I'm big on the budget hotels, so this was really something for me. But very much worth it. I had so much fun!
