I have lived in Myrtle Beach SC my entire life, and I was very dissapointed in this show. It was very boring, and didnt show anything that was important to potential visitors. It seemed like it was just thrown together in the last minute like no one cared.
On the travel channels website it says she went to The Sea Captains House, Barefoot Resort, and Litchfield Plantation, I dont recall any of that. watching this show was, sadly, a waste of time. I was really looking forward to it.
The Sea Captain's House? Really? Wow. I'm certainly no Myrtle Beach native, and have not even been there in years and years (and years), but we always used to go to that restaurant then, and a good friend in college from Mass. used to waitress there in the summers long ago as well. No doubt a local institution still, but maybe not a matter for actual national excitement meriting inclusion when fresh crab cakes were available elsewhere. I sure remember that Pawley's Island hammock store too from childhood. That's a must. For all the territory this episode had to cover in a very little time (with I suspect tens of thousands of college seniors warming up for graduation during her filming there), I thought it was pretty judiciously done (and I'm trying to stay retired). (And I'm not a sea captain either.)
I thought this episode was hilarious!!! I have never been to Myrtle Beach, so I don't know what Sam should and shouldn't have shown, but I will say having seen this episode I would now love to visit.
Probably my favorite episode yet! Never would I have considered Myrtle Beach a vacation destination...but she made it look like fun.
And what was with everybody named "Judy"? I thought it was a hilarious coincidence.
I also about choked on my drink when the hammock man called her a "Yankee". I live in the South and never heard anybody use that term before. But I have to admit....I would LOVE one of those hammocks!
This is more of a question for MB natives and/or frequent visitors. I am getting married in the MB area next month and Samantha had said that she had rented an antique car in the area. Where can you do that? Who would I contact? Any help would be fabulous!
I finally caught this episode last night and I have to say that it was the best of all the Great Weekend episodes I've seen thus far.
It had alot of the charm from the older Passport series and Sam spent more time doing interesting activities than shopping and drinking.
I'm still not crazy about the shooting style of this series. While Europe and Latin America felt more 1st person and made me feel like I was actually at that location, this series again feels more like I'm a Voyeur watching Sam.
Why the heck did Travel Channel hire a British production company to do this series?
Another disappointed viewer here. Just caught this tonight and it was 100% unenjoyable. I've been a visitor to Myrtle Beach for almost 20 years now, and this episode showed absolutely -nothing- that people might actually enjoy doing! Shagging? Visiting some crab cake maker? Hammocks? Come on!
Where is Alligator Adventure! Barefoot Landing? The Ripley's Theater? Mentioning the Apache Pier? Really, really disappointed with this show.
There was a lot of poorly planned stock footage tossed in here too. During the section about Family Kingdom, there was an aerial shot of the Pavilion, a shot of the Pavilion's swing ride (as well as Family Kingdom's Yo-Yo ride) and a shot of the Pavilion's pirate ship ride. What makes this particularly surprising is that the stock footage utilized was INSANELY old. The aerial shot of the Pavilion was filmed before the Myrtle Beach Hurricane was constructed in 2000.
I understand that sometimes you need to go with stock footage, but is it asking too much to use footage of the correct location (and maybe the correct decade)?
There was nothing in this special that would make me want to visit Myrtle Beach. Am I an anomoly because I don't currently use a Life Alert bracelet?
(edited because I don't know the difference in "to" and "too." Good old SC education)
Hi Everyone. We are leaving for Myrtle Beach on Aug 30. 2008. Our children will be with us for the first week. Then my husband and I will spend another week by ourselves. My question is to those whom live near or in Myrtle Beach and for those whom visit often. Can you give us some fun things to do with the kids and without the kids (all adults, and one grandchild soon to be 29 months). Does Myrtle Beach and area have a dinner/dance cruise anywhere? We do want to visit a Naval Ship. We can always find shopping. I want to know about those secrets that the locals know about. Those places that you always want to come back to. Thanks so much for your answers. Doreen1020

maddog713, I was able to get an answer on your request from the show producers. Here is the information for the car rental company: I reached out to the production company and obtained the info below. Although rather late, I thought I would pass this info along.

I hope this is not too late. Good luck with the wedding! mod_ben
We love Myrtle Beach and if Sam goes again she should go the Broadway at the Beach and a great Italian Restaurant called "Villa Romana", family owned since 1985-Great food and fun evening for all. We have been going to MB for many years much to feature there.
