Hi everyone, I am new here but have been watching Samantha Brown for years.
I wanted to say that I was disappointed with the Charleston/Savannah episode. I just got back from a trip to both cities and fell in love with the charm, the food, the atmosphere. I don't feel she captured that at all. She did things that normal travelers do not, or could not do. How many of us want to try, not that we would be able to, do a 2 hour morning work-out with members of the armed forces? And I am sorry, but while in Savannah I am not going beekeeping.
I watch Samantha Brown's shows so that I can get an idea of fun things to do in the destinations she is in....not to watch her do things that regular travelers could not have access to.
That is EXACTLY how I feel--110%! I used to watch her show's before I went somewhere and you nailed it--when will I work-out at 5 a.m. at the Citadel? Savannah and Charleston are such amazing cities and I didn't see any of that in the episode. Plus I felt she already did the "jail/haunted" thing in the Philadelphia episode.
I'm also very dissapointed with this season of Samantha Browns Weekends. I love her and watched her show for years. I miss the episodes where she would show the sights and the off the beaten path spots. She got me wanting to goto places I never thought I would want to go. This season they got her on dog sleds and sleeping on frozen lakes. I want to know what nice hotel to stay at, not see her uncomfortable. There are enough shows on the travel channel that show people doing crazy things. Travel channel BRING BACK THE OLD SAMANTHA BROWN SHOW!!!
I think I have seen every show Samantha has done I think starting with great hotels. (thank heavens for the DVR). BUT--- I think Sam needs a producer that gets away from the "Hey, lets make Sam touch bees or do this activity-- that'll ger ratings!"--and allow Sam to take us through a city and show us where we would go if we were traveling with her. This new week-end format of watching Sam get a reading or going to the spa, or exercising-- I can do that anywhere USA. I want to get the essence of the destination; and, if it's off the path, it would be something interesting to experience. There was nothing of Charleston or Savanah in this episode other than a few minutes that captured the actual city. Sam, fire that producer.
