This episode started out as being one of the better ones, weak in production quality as they all are, but fairly solid in content. Then came the cross-dresser segment. I swear the producer of this series is positively obsessed with cross-dressers; they seem to have been featured in about half of the episodes to date. As a straight male, I personally find them offensive, and I would think that gay males would find them offensive as well.

Again, I cringed when I saw this episode. I enjoyed EVERY BIT of this show, but I knew if they showed one drag queen that was it! I'm glad the show is supporting alternative life styles. Very cool. Personally, I find nothing offensive about any of it. Drag queens are so full of personality and drama, and the one on this show was hilarious to boot. But as a level headed fan, I respect opinions that differ from mine.

To the other parts of the show...

There's no way you'd get me on a plane with no motors! What a brave trooper for her to take that segment on. The view was beautiful, but I'd take a postcard any day than that plane ride.

Was that really her mom at the ice cream shop? The first time I watched it I thought I heard her say "mom", the second time I knew she said "mom". So cute!

The haunted tour guide totally creeped me out. I think it was how he spoke and got enthusiastic over the stories he was telling. If I were on a haunted tour, I'd want somebody just like that. It kind of reminded me of the haunted Hawaii show Sam did way back when. And once again, no way would I ever go up to that scary room like she did.

When all is said and done, I enjoyed watching Sam do things I am way too chicken to do. I think that's one of the magical charms of her show.

And is anybody missing Sam's blogs as much as I am? I noticed she didn't post anything for Wyoming and Cape Cod. And where was Sam during the travel tips commercial?

Can hardly wait until Brooklyn airs! (And hopefully a blog from Sam!)

Misty

Yes, Samantha is a good sport, she'll try most anything. She is brave and daring. I have not only missed her blogs, but also her occasional posts here on the forum. Samantha, where are you?

You are so right, nunesy. She always has been quite the good sport.
The bravery, adventurous spirit, and sheer stamina that is consistently displayed by Samantha Brown has always been something many have admired and been inspired by over the years. She also respects and connects positively with everyone she meets in our diverse world. It is indeed extraordinary.
However, in my opinion, it’s really not necessary for her to risk personal injury for the sake of our entertainment as often as she does. She should get much credit and money in her paycheck for her willingness to go the extra mile every time she is directed to. I have heard that Tinkerbell is the highest paid Disney World cast member because she ziplines down from the top of the castle every night. This seems mild compared to all the things Samantha has done. There has to be a safe middle ground between showing us hotel rooms and toiletries (which I actually miss a little bit, by the way) and tumbling through the air from dizzying heights or sticking her face under a horse. I have to say though, that the opening glider sequence was quite amazing and superbly done. In the absence of the orienting maps we once appreciated in Passport openings, this bird’s eye view of Cape Cod was wonderful.

Although this premiere had some seriously tough competition on the networks, I belatedly enjoyed my recorded Cape Cod episode. It’s about time Mom got into the act! I was especially happy to see the brief show of unconditional support and love delivered in one little line by the maternal ice cream taster. We could use more of that around here.

And with that thought, may I add,
You make the best television shows, Samantha!
Here’s hoping your producers and the Travel Channel management recognize that, and treat you accordingly, now and in the future.

As always,
Mother O.

Seriously, nunesy! Where is our Samantha?

I like to think that her absence is a win/win situation for us. While she's not as active on the boards, she must be out there making more shows for us! (At least that's what I like to believe. Smile )

Here's hoping, with my fingers crossed, to a blog for Brooklyn! It seems we all need a small Sam fix. I'd like to see some photos with the blog too...but is that asking too much? I don't want to get greedy!

Sadly, I just looked and all I saw was a blog from the crew. Still nice to have a blog than no blog.

ModBen,
I am not sure who else to ask about this, but do you know why the Cape Code episode has not been posted on iTunes? I am in the midst of traveling all over and that's the only way I can watch Passport to Great Weekends. Smile I am also dying to see Brooklyn as I will be in NYC next week and hoping that will be put on iTunes soon too.
Thank you!!!

Does anyone know when she was at The Sundae School? It's right down the street from my cottage! I walk there all the time when I'm down there! I can't believe I missed her!

I re-watched this episode tonight on Sam's "new time" (which I'm not too fond of, honestly) and realized how much I have been missing PTGW!!!

I said it before after this episode aired the first time, but there is NO WAY I'd go into a haunted house or church. I do not do scary things or even watch scary movies. Big chicken here! However, I enjoy living vicariously through Sam and her adventures. I'm sure she'd rather I was creating and making my own adventures....until that time comes, I'm so very thankful for Sam and the Travel Channel.

Sorry for being sappy, once again!

I am horrified - Sam creates a rum-laced Mojito ice cream and then feeds it to children????? Then she follows with a comment that she hopes that she doesn't cause a lot of intoxicated tourists around town?
This is beyond bad judgement - and where I'm from - illegal!!!

I'm a little disappointed that there was no mention of Falmouth, Woods Hole, Sandwich and especially Bourne( I graduated from Bourne High class of 1966). There is the train bridge, the Mass Maritime Academy and ship, not to mention a trip down the canel. Maybe another show is in order.
