I just got back from Bangkok and had a wonderful experience with my tailor. I just graduated and was in need of more suits at a reasonable price for a suit-everyday job that I just started. I found out about Savile Row Fashion Clothiers on this site, and decided to check them out. I emailed Narry and Aron (father and son who run the shop) beforehand, and they were very helpful, with directions to the shop and pricing.
There are a million tailors in Bangkok, and quite a few look absolutely horrible, so be very careful. I would recommend Savile Row Fashion without any hesitation. I got two suits, 4 shirts, and a pair of shorts made there, and love all of them. In fact, I am sitting in the trousers from one of the suits now. The suits were $250 apiece, and the shirts were $30, both incredible prices. If you go, your first visit will be a fitting and fabric selection; Aron will measure you and give you a box of pushpins to select fabrics you like. Then you pull all the fabrics out and choose what you want. Aron will be happy to guide you as far as style choices, and his instincts are traditional and generally spot-on, but if you have specific requests they are happy to accommodate you. For example, I got surgeon cuffs, cuffed pants, peak lapels, and half linings on my suits, none of which are standard, and they didn't charge me extra. I also asked for side pleats, removable collar stays, and 1/4" stitching on my shirts, which they were happy to do. I've worn the suits and shirts several times now. They fit quite well, and I still can't believe I paid under $900 for essentially an entire week's worth of dress clothing. If you want more info or details, PM me and I'll be happy to share, but I would definitely suggest checking out Savile Row Fashion. Paulgerad England |

I travelled through Vietnam for a month 4 years ago. In Hue which is known for its excellant tailors, I had 2 silk suits ($35US/apiece) and a wool/cashmere suit ( $55US) made. I also had a pair of guide pants and 2 dress shirts made. I believe Hue is the cheapest place in SEA to have clothing made. I travelled through Thailand on six separate trips and didn't find any comparible prices.

I am a German and come to Bangkok many times a year for its many special services
Have tried heaps of tailors and would recommend few good ones with some tips. The first thing I will say about tailors in Bangkok is there are good ones and there are bad ones. The first rule is do not enter any shop that has a deal that is too good to be true - all those shops selling "2 Cashmere Suits / 2 Silk Shirts etc for USD 199" are all gimmicks. DO NOT enter any shops that you are taken to by guides - you get ripped of as the guides get commission. Tuk Tuks and taxis also take you to guide shops - it is better to call the tailor you are interested in yourself and they will recommend you how to get there ! I have used many tailors in Bangkok and have been totally impressed with Excelsior. Their service is outstanding and they treated me and dressed me like a King. I have now made over 10 suits and 50 shirts with them in the last 2 years and am extremely happy with them. They visited my brother in law in Germany also on their visiting tailor trip and all his friends were also happy so if you need a suit made - don't waste your time - go to Excelsior. They are a little bit hard to find so its best to call them for a pickup to save time and money. The good thing is this shop has a vast range available. You can get suits as low as 90 Euros and as high as 1000 Euros. It is your choice as it all depends on the fabrics you choose. I normally spend about 200 Euros per suit! Cheers |
