Som Tum (aka Papaya Pok Pok, or raw papaya salad) which is a very famous Thai dish, which roots from Eastern Thailand in the Isaan area is eaten by Bangkokians and Thais alike. There are many levels or types of Som Tums for us to choose from , from the food stalls on the side of the street that makes the spiciest ones to upper-scale shops that serves Som Tum that foreigners can handle the spice, since you can choose how spicy you want it to be.

So I found this one exceptional Som Tum / Thai restaurant located in the heart of Bangkok’s most hip mall: Siam Paragon (more info on this mall + other malls in the trends section (06) of the website: http://www.tourismthailand.org/7wonders/ ). The name of the restaurant is “Café Chilli” located on the “G” (Ground) Floor of the mall on the South wing, I believe.

There are so many selections of dishes to choose from. For Desserts, I went for: Deep-fried Pork Rib with Garlic. For the som tum dish, I went for Spicy Papaya Salad with Pickled Crab from Original Recipe and Crispy Salty Spicy Salad (but told the kitchen to tone down on the spicy), and for main, I had Fried Chicken Cafe Chilli Style, Steamed River-Fish with local Herbs, Steamded Salmoncake with Local Herbs and Ground Rice, and steamed rice.

I love Thai desserts so we ordered a lot of dishes and shared: Apricot in Chill Syrup, Strawberry in Chill Syrup, and of course, the best of all, Coconut Ice Cream.

The price of this restaurant is obviously higher than those of normal shops but overall, it was worth it, for the ambience and the food was exceptional.

Bon Appetite
