i am so inlove with this game... have it on my computer, video game systems, even my phone.. but i do have one question... my friends and i wanted to set up a WPT" event in my house once a week., we've invested in a poker table, installed a bar at the house, and even set up part of the room as a permanant "poker area" but the one question i have is chip count. we're about to invest a fairly sizable investment in poker chips (sizable for a college student.. :-) but i don't know how many chips to purchase, usually there is anywhere between 5 and 10 of us playing a tournament or shootout style. but i wanted the "impressive" chip stacks that i see on the WPT rather than stacks of like 50. how many chips do you think i should invest in? and it what denomitations and amounts? i want each person to have a "bankroll" off 100,000. LOL we wanna play like high rollers on a buy-in of 100 dollars... AHAHHAHAA

...i love this game.

thanks for all your help guys. and good luck to you all Smile

Well, normally, 500 chips would be good. 3 colors is optimal, but no more than 4. But, you want "big stacks." If you really want mammoth stacks go with 1000 chips. If you get 4 colors, choose the colors you want. But, don't just get 250 of each color. For instance, if you wanted white, red, green, and black, get something like:

300 white
300 red
250 green
150 black

Of course you want more of the lower chip denominations. If you are truly playing tournament style poker, you will need to start each player with maybe just whites and reds, or maybe whites, reds, and greens. Of course you can make the values be whatever you want, but for an example, say that the chips are standard denominations, white is $1, red $5, green $25, and black $100.

Start each player with maybe $30 white and $120 red. Start the blinds small, like $1/$2. Set a timer, and increase the blinds as you go, after x amount of minutes. When the small blind reaches $5, "color up" the whites into reds and have each player "color up" some red into green...like 20 reds for 4 greens or something like that. And as you go, you'll eventually color to green and black, ans so on. Just sit down, think it over. You can get as many or as few colors as you'd like, and you can make them the amount you want. For instance, make the whites 100, reds 500, etc...

But the main thing is: get a quality chip set that you will be happy with for a long time. You SHOULDNT need more than 500 chips for 8-10 players, but like you said, you want big stacks. Go with the 1000 then...why not? You can always add chips and multiple colors to your collection as you go too. Who knows, someday you might be hosting a 30 player tourney, and might need 2000 chips! Imagine the fun...

I'll chime in and say getting a quality chip set is very important. Good clay chips can last for a long time so you might as well pay the good money for them.

Don'tlisten to those idiots. Got to homepokertourney.com It shows how to set up a home poker tournament and what you need. I host a tournament eow for up to 30 players. I use 600 chips. We start with $3k with 1 rebuy adn 1 add on. My blinds are 50/100 to start with 20 minute rounds. This allows the game to complet in a reasonable time. Usually you gem should end about the time your blinds reach you buy in limit. My game seldom goes past $3k blinds but runs about 4 hrs for 20-30 players. You can get chips labelled with $$ amounts or just post color values on wall. I use a blind structure from partysoftware that runs my blinds and keeps everyone up to date on when blind goes up adn what it is and will be on next level. This makes it easy to run and only cost $14.95 gEt good cards (copag) with bridge size and jumbo index as its easier for everyone to see. Good luck
