My first post,

Thank you for the directions, I hope to use them over the holidays. Our first stop in Prague was last May when escaping Cologne, GA from the aftermath of a former foreign exchange student's wedding. We fell in love and are returning Christmas day. We are photographers and were overcome with opportunities. It rained every day but not all day and the wet pavement-hobblestones-were so photogenic and reflected some of those fabulous buildings when looking down.
We saw the episode with the strudel before we left but I did not check this board for directions. With more time, colder weather and less surprise at the beautiful city, we may find time to explore something besides Old Town and New Town.

See you there!

That little Prague strudel shop surely does attract much attention. There's a new inquiry, so I'm bumping this thread up to the top for the benefit of all those planning a trip there.

If you've followed the directions and tasted Europe's best strudel, please come back and post your observations!

Prague is about the only city in central Europe that wasn't bombed to bits. The Bankers and their little world war at least on city was spared. It's a shame the bankers have to get their wars started and people blow up what it took centuries to build.

Thank you all for the excellent directions and taste reviews! My husband and I are going to Prague in September and that strudel shop is very near the top of our "must do" list!! We were wondering how we would ever be able to find it and you've told us how. We are very grateful--and we will be even more so when we finally get to taste the strudel!

Just wanted to let you all know, I was in Prague last week and we found the strudel shop! We followed the directions in these posts, although you should be warned that the tram line closest to the shop is currently under construction and we had to walk a few blocks more than we expected - but it was completely worth it! It was the largest , most delicious apple strudel I have ever tasted - for only 39 kc (about $2.60). Definitely worthwhile!

My wife and I visited Susta Strudel (the one featured on the Samantha Brown show) last week while in Prague. It was worth the walk. The strudel was great!

It is really easy to find.
Go to the Flora metro station.
Walk north from the metro station on Jicinska.
You will see the huge TV tower on your left.
Continue north on Jicinska and it will turn into Prokopova (street names tend to change in Prague).
Turn right onto Jeseniova, and the bakery will be about 3 blocks on your left.

It is about a 10 or 15 minute walk from the metro station.

The address is : Jeseniova 29 Praha 3

You will be able to get a warm, freshly made, homemade-style, 10 -12 inch strudel for less than 3 bucks!

Enjoy!!

SB's Prague episode aired today and I thought it would be nice to bring this up for those who want directions to the strudel shop (as always seems to happen).

I must confess that I've never seen Prague but have passed nearby on a few occasions. It's about halfway between Berlin and Munich and a little east of both - I'd judge about 1 1/2 - 2 hours by train from either. Thereafter, the guides above should get you there nicely to the shop. One might consult with this PTE episode as it provides the proper Czech words with which one can order apple strudel. [The deer-in-the-headlights look from SB when the proprietor shot a hundred-word response to her greeting, "dobridyan" was priceless.] Otherwise, Orangefan (Mother O) provides translation on page 1 as does another poster provide long/lat coordinates for those GPS inclined.

The Prague PTE episode is quintessential SB, by the way. Not only is this the famous Strudel episode, it is also the infamous roll-tossing episode. One of my favorites from the PineRidge days. Well done, as always!

Best, Intl Doc

My wife and I just returned from 3 days in Prague (Not including the 7 hours that felt like 3 days in the Prague airport) and wanted to than everyone that had posted directions on how to get to Susta Strudl. We treked all the way out there on Friday 8/14 and found it with only minimal delays along the way.

Thought I would throw in a few things that will help make it easier for anyone else wanting to venture out for what had to be the best strudl I've ever had.

When you come out of the Metro station at Flora, you are going to want to turn to the right heading down the hill. You will know you are heading the right way if Luxembourg Plaza is on your left. Stay on the side of the street you are starting on and do not cross the street. As you are getting close, you will see a sign on a building on the opposite side of the street for Residence Jessenoivia (sp) with an arrow pointing to the right. This is where you will make your right hand turn. Be careful here, there are two rights, and you want the sharper one. If you make the regular right, you will be on Rocky Canova. Jessenoivia is the sharp right with the sign for the street up on a wall but covered in ivy. It's still a good bit up the steet from there, but by then the anticipation will make the walk seem short.

A couple of other points: !. Make sure you have water or beverages with you as Susta does not sell them, and you will get thirsty on the walk especially since the entire return trip is uphill. 2. There ain't no way in hell Samantha made the walk from the Metro station. Pretty sure the limo dropped her off about 50 feet from Susta, an then she sashayed up to the window the way we all know she does. Then I'm sure she got back in the limo for the ride back to Prague.

I have attached a link of what the window looks like and a picture of my wife holding the mammoth piee of strudl that now costs about $2.50

My wife and I were in Prague this past weekend. Acutally we arrived last Thursday night and return Sunday to our home. On Friday we went here and we found it thanks to the GPS directions that foundthestrudel posted on page 1 of this threat. They were right on. We had the apple and the cheese strudls and both of them were fantastic. The place only opens during the week from 8-12am and from 1pm-6pm. It is closed on weekend. Thank you for the directions.
