Hello, great information. My husband is in Irak and he'll get a 2 week leave in October. Europe sounds like the place to go at that time, but with so many interesting place how can we choose???
We are going to meet in Munich and from there we don't have any plans yet... any ideas??? We would like to take our time visiting places and enjoying the culture and the food. 5 years ago when he was deployed to England, we visited London, Paris and Scotland. |

In Munich Oktoberfest begins in mid-September and runs into the first week of October, so it's a good spot for a fall rendezvous. Acquire a room as soon as you can though, since the event fills the city quite nicely and available rooms will be distant and expensive if you don't reserve well in advance.
The best places to visit (i.e., beer halls) are all in Altstadt (the Old City), if memory serves. If you get a chance to make it to Munich suburb Unterschleissheim (hope the spelling is correct), try the Onasis - a Greek restaurant just a short walk from the S-bahn platform. It's the best Greek food this side of, well, Greece! From Munich you are a short train ride from Berlin or Prague (north), and both Austria and Switzerland (south) are within easy distances too. Once in Switzerland you are near the south of France (e.g., via Geneva to Lyon, Cannes, etc.). You might consider doing a city-to-city train circuit, but I will let you figure that one out for yourself (I won't spoil your fun!). Contact the EuRail folks for details. Tschüss! Intl Doc |
