Andrew,

I absolutely love the show. Im 19 years old attending Radford University, and YOUR show has helped me find my passion in life, COOKING! I am constantly searching for bizarre foods to eat! I cook for all my friends, being a college student expecially in rural virginia, i have limited resources...I'm used to fresh seafood being from Connecticut...I tried to cook chicken hearts and gizzards, but couldnt find a good recipe. are there any inexpensive bizzare foods that you would suggest for a curious and adventuresome college student??

Also, I am very eager to begin my career in the culinary field, I was wondering if there was advice you could to me to begin my lifegoal of owning my own restaurant, my mother the gudience counsler suggests Culinary Institute of America, but i am very anxious to study abroad, any ideas?!

I want to thank you for my new passion, you've inspired my life plan!

Hi Andrew,

I watched your program about St.Petersburg, Russia last week - it was great! Now, how about visiting Ukraine with stops in Kiev and Poltava?
It will be worth the visit! Is it in your plans?

Andrew, Hello from Nashville!

I want to ask, Why does your show make me so hungry??? Seriously!!!
Everytime I watch it, I find myself looking for a snack..... crazy!!

Actually, I've always enjoyed foods that a lot of people freak out over..... like Livers, Hearts, (organ meat in general) Snake, Gator, Raw Fish, Raw Eggs, Wild Game of many sorts..... etc..... (However; I still haven't conquered the "Insect Territory, But I did try "Dried Cheesy Worms" which were VERY TASTY!)

I was wondering if you know what the "dried, salty fish eye" snack is called? (I remember my Dad telling me about an encounter with those when he was in the Navy.....) They sound awesome!! Is there a certain type of fish used more than others? Or is it more of a "Fish Eye Free for All"?

I may have to visit one of our "World Markets" here in Nashville, to seek out more "fun foods".
Anyway, Hope you make it to "Music City" some day!

Happy Eating!!!!!

I enjoy the show and find it entertaining. I have to say that watching you eat, (not what you eat) has got to be one of the most rude display of table manners I've seen. Cutting a piece of food so large that you have to fit it into your mouth sideways then having your cheeks buldge is the most unappetizing visuals I've seen on your show. If you were at my table, you would be asked to leave until you could produce manners that were acceptable. If you choke on a piece of food so large that it can feed a small country, I hope your camera crew is up to date on the Heimlich maneuver.

Hey Andrew! I am such a huge fan of yours that I even eat bizzare foods myself! I've been eating the fish brains, tounge, ect; since I was only 5..I asked my mom to fry the fish head for me. I ate the whole thing right up! Another strange food i've had is pigs and chicken feet. It was on sale in a supermarket and decided to try it.
The dried pork fat isn't half bad! Its actually pretty good!
Tell me the weirdest thing you've eaten your whole life..(Except the durian)

When you were at the Minnesota State Fair, where did you get the brat wrapped with lefse? My husband's aunt runs Lynn's Lefse and we worked there many a summer as teenagers. We never served brats, but I do know that the fair is very strict on duplicate vendors. Just wondering.

Happy Eating!!

Dear Andrew;
I know someone who may have a drinking problem. I wondered if you felt it is necessary to include alchohol in any of your recipes. I would think that it would be hard to stay off the sauce if the environment around you was filled with alchohol.

I love the show and am envious you get to try such great sounding things. One thing bothers me. In the opening credits each show, there is a big tray of what look like the heads of pigs (domesticated swine). I thought I was pretty much up on most animals, but I don't ever remember seeing a pig the size of a house cat. Were you with a group of headhunters who wanted to keep their hand in? Smile

To BStone. the war in Iraq is not going badly for us, so keep your unpatriotic mouth shut. Maybe if we snatched you up, gave you a uniform and equipment, and dropped you in Basra, you could show the troops how to do the job better, jerk.

i am wondering does your television crew eat the same foods as you do but off camera. also, you have eaten a lot of exotic foods. i am curious about how your body handles the food. basically do you have regular bowel movements. changing from the american diet to a foreign diet can cause some problems in the digestive tract. do you have any problems that are food related, such as traveler's diarrhea.

Andrew,

I am very impressed with your travels, the show, and the foods. Your show is wonderful, the presentation of the cultural differences based on foods is amazing, and your ability to make the most bizarre foods interesting is certainly quite the talent. I must admit that the way you smack your lips when you eat some of the foods makes me laugh out loud. You are a great host and I have enjoyed traveling with you-albeit from my living room-as you jump from place to place.

Anyway, I have noticed over the two seasons that you really enjoy fish heads. I absolutley love seafood and am not opposed to trying any type of food at all. I also enjoy cooking quite a bit and was wondering, in your opinion, as to a.) the best way to prepare fish heads and b.) the type of fish head best suited for consumption?

Finally, I know that your list of "co-hosts" is growing, and I will certainly not bother you with asking to be added, but I must admit that I say to my wife every tuesday that you have the best job in the world. Hats off to you and if you are ever in Cincinnati, Ohio, let me know...dinner on me. Based on your show, I would think that you would be a blast to hang out with!

Take care and thanks again for making Tuesday evenings a little more enjoyable!

Greetings!

I have a BURNING question whose answer I have been dying to know!

Andrew, have there been times when you put something into your mouth and IMMEDIATELY vomitted? If so, was this edited out and left off camera? It seems that you eat MANY things that are stinky, sinewy, and just plain gross. Please let me know if any of them have caused induced immediate regurgitation that none of us viewers were privy to!!!

Thanks! You're one brave soul!

uh, just to clarify, we don't eat guinea pigs (or Dagang Costas, as we call them) in the Philippines. I had several of them as pets growing up and they ended their lives out of the frying pan. I think you were referring to Ecuador?

Now, I will admit that the guinea pig eating bit also disturbed me a lot, but I have to agree with you in saying we can't pass judgment on another country's culture - and not just because my own country of birth has several of what you might consider gross-out food. So like what a lot of people have already said about this show, enjoy it for its educational value and be open-minded enough to appreciate cultures other than your own.

Smile
Thank you for the clarification and my apology for my error to the Philippine peoples.I had recorded both episodes and watched both the same evening, hence my mix up.

You are from the Phillipines? I am dying to try Balut.. do you know where to get it here in the USA?? It sounds great!

Hi Andrew,
I love the show. I am a Southern girl born and bred, and I grew up eating things that my friends now concider bizarre. LOL. My husband gags at some of the things I eat and he's from Ireland lol. (Raw Oysters, squid, squirrel, chicken livers and gizzards...etc)

Anyway, I wondering how your family felt about the foods you eat, and if they have gotten adventurous enough to try any of it?

Also, after seeing the shows on lutefish I would loveto try some... How can i get can i arrange my tastebuds a meeting with some lutefish here in South Carolina? Balut's another thing i am dying to try!!

Oh, I recently tried chicken feet and fried chicken heads.. both were good, but the texture of the feet was.. strange lol. did you like the feet?

Thanks Jess

Hi Andrew
Im writing on behalf of my wife who was traumatized after watching 'something' that gave her the creeps on one of the shows TV ads.
Her phobia, I think, lies on the fact that she (we) dont know what was it that you were about to eat...
Its something that seems like a giant tentacle blood/reddish and slimmy. It has like an array of holes..
We are fans of your show (also from Puerto Rico) but my wife is not the same anymore.. Is there a link about your TV show commercials?
Thanks

andrew, i also love your show and as a person that is passioned about history, geography and food, i have to say that on the bolivia espisode you made some affirmations that are inacurate.
first of all you mentioned that potatoes were native to bolivia, which is false, because historians, geographers, and people that have studied this field, have proven that the potato and the "chuno" were first cultivated by the pre- incan cutures and widely cultivated by the incas, who are the symbol of peruvian Culture, as we all know the capital of the inca empire was Cuzco (just a hint Machupicchu).
you also mentioned incan traditions in bolivia, however the incas spoke quechua, language that was offical in the inca empire. in spite of these you talked about the aymara indians as of being of incan ancestry, but history tells us that they were two different groups. eventhought they were assimilated by the incas,"the quechua" and the aymara are different groups; you wouldnt say that slovacs were descendents of the cheqs, because they were both part of checoslovaqia.
i always watch your show, and i still love it. nevertheless i feel that it was a bit unfair to give all the credit to a country for such things when there is vast proven information that rejects the statements you made on your show. it would have been better if you had given credit to the andean culture. as person that has travelled to both countries, i believe it was wrongg to usurp the history and traditions of one country and give it to another, even though they are closely related.
thoughfully
a fan of your show

Andrew - I hope you get to read these messages at some point... I'm really excited about your visit to Chile and I can't wait to watch the show tonight. I just spent a few weeks in Chile a month ago and I've been to several of the areas you visited. I'm really glad you got to visit the country and hope you enjoyed it just as much as I did. Now, can you please tell Anthony Bourdain to get his A$$ over there too? If Sam Brown, who by the way is beyond annoying got to visit Chile, why didnt Anthony?

Andrew,

My wife and I really enjoyed the episode in Beijing. My wife grew up in Beijing, she thought your show was great, especially about the Guo-li-zhuang Restaurant (specialized in penis). However, do you know there is another house dish in Beijing made of human placenta - placenta dumplings? It is a dish started from ancient royal families. It is only eaten by women to restore beauty and youth. It is also common for family sharing mother's breast milk.

Hello Andrew, first of all congrats on your great show. I've seen all your episodes and I have to admit you have make me sick sometimes but what can I say, everyone has a limit. I'm from Puerto Rico and I can tell you, we have a lot of food you will love. Stuffed cows tongue, rooster crest soup, breaded cows brain, pigs feet stew, bull testicles soup, river turtle stew, fried spicy goat eyes and pigs cooked ears-tongue-stomach combo are just some examples of our bizarre menu so consider sometime in the future to drop by and have a bite. I look foward to see you soon, keep up the good work, bye.

Andrew!! WHATS UP MY MAN!? Well I gotta say that I love the direction the travel channel took you and Tony B. Both shows are great and they are equally great, for both have their own call to fame!
Ive read alot of posts from men and women being inspired to cook, and that is absolutely fantastic! Spread it around man, because just like the ancient art of oriental noodle-making, seeing rising chef's taking on where others have left off is, at least in my eyes, dying out! So first and foremost, definately keep up the good work!

I have just two quick questions...My first question for ya is kinda simple and maybe even answered in the previous 350 posts. Is there something that you absolutely refuse to eat, or perhaps even a contract-drawn list of 'Andy's big list of no-go's'? If so man...I totally dont blame you..hahaha!

The second question I had came from a previous post i read where you said, qoute, "I have to say, I'm not planning on eating any dog or cat soon", and before that there was a reply from a fan about too much controversy that comes with Tom and Pluto on the dinner table, and that The Travel Channel would not allow it.
My question is; seriously? If there was an episode such as that, would there be controversy over the content? I would certainly hope not, because, to me,this show is ALL ABOUT seeing other cultures straight up, and in a sense, traveling to another place from inside your own living room. I dont believe that anyone would start yelling at a native vendor for selling his own cultures food....or would they? The reason I ask, is because, as a military brat, I have traveled quite a few places and ate all kinda of crazy and wierd things, and when I tell people that I ate smoked horse meat in The Netherlands, some get quite upset. I was just qurious to hear your take in it and see if you ever plan to try anymore American pets and if such controversy would really exist? Oh, and by the way horse meat, or Paarden Rook Vlees, as its called in Holland, is at times just as salty and full of flavor as a proschuitto ham and SOMETIMES can even rival a medium brand shinken, at just half the cost!
THANX FOR READING-and Im still waiting on that competition to get to become a side-kick for a show..haha step it up guys!

I would just like to say thanks for going to Bolivia for your show; so many people think Bolivia is in Mexico. So thanks again. The only thing that bothered my family and me about the episode was your translator in La Paz. When you were in the market and you drank the drinks, you actually tasted chicha de mani (which is a peanut juice). Secondly she translated mocochinchi as booger juice it's actually spelled mkhochinchi, pronounced mogochinchi and is in Quechua (it has nothing to do with boogers). Maybe she did not know the translation because these drinks are originally from the city of Cochabamba. Just wanted to let you know. By the way the next time you go to Bolivia please go to Cochabamba because we have way better and bizarre foods there.

I have seen you eat Sea Urchin a couple times and both times you said it tasted good.

I had it in a sushi roll once and it was the most awful taking thing I've ever had. I would describe it a wet sponge walked on for an hour with stinky feet. (haha)

Do you think it is prepared for a sushi roll differently versus how you ate it that makes for a very different taste? Or are their different types of Sea Urchin.

Ick! Smile

Hey Andrew. I think I have watched all your shows. I am an aspiring cook and I love cooking and eating. I have to admit that I would not have the strength to eat some of the things you have, but I'm always open to trying new things. You have a great show. One thing that all stars will have to admit is that the heart of any show is those who bring it to life, the crew. I noticed on your last show to China you were eating on the farm and during the shoot there were bowls and sticks set up for more than what was on the table. I could only assume this was for your crew. My questions to you, does your crew always eat where you eat? Are they as crazy as you and eat anything? I wouldn't mind seeing a show dedicated to the background scene of the show. Bloopers, outtakes, and a more closup look at how you and your crew do this awesome task of traveling around the world trying new food. One other thing that I would like to see is a little more detail in native foods and the history of how they came to be. As an example, belute. How far back does this unusual food date? How did it begin? Why? I find it unuasle to that most of the food we eat now days, every day, started out in another country as peasant food, huh. Maybe a show on peasant foods from verious countries that are common place foods in modern civilization.

Thanks for bringing the world to my home

One thing i would like to see is where to find/try/fry/and buy these foods. It seems Andrew is the only one that can afford to travel to all the locations but there are many of us who would love to sample a taste or two without the travel expense. Is there a site or some other means to order some of these Bizzare/exotic foods we are teased with? It would be nice if this is addressed on the show from time to time. Other than chasing some bees with a net and hoping they aren't Africanized or digging in the rocks of Arizona for a grub, I dont see how I will ever be able to try something new. Tired of Torillas in AZ...TMANAZ...............

Thank so you so very much for the segment you did on Vietnam. I was born and raised in Vietnam til the age of 11 before I left for America. I have not had the opportunity to return for a visit and not long ago, Mr. Anthony Bourdain did a segment about Vietnam. I was so thrilled and could hardly wait for that show to air but felt completely crushed and humiliated after watching the entire show. Mr. Bourdain completely destroyed the beauty and the culture of our country in his choice of contents for that show. I regretted of telling many friends to be sure to watch that show as I couldnt wait to show them about our country. I was completely humiliated by the show. I switched and started watching just your show only on the travel channel no matter where Mr. Bourdain was filming his specials. I didn't care where your show took us nor even if you would never do a show of Vietnam. Our children love watching you and they were besides themselves when they learned of your segment on Vietnam. I didn't have the strong heart to watch thinking it would be like what Mr. Bourdain did so I recorded and waited until my heart was strong to watch it. I was so afraid you would do the same, taking the audience to only ugly locations and show the horrible way of life our people live.
I"M SO GRATEFUL AND THRILLED OF HOW YOU PRESENTED OUR COUNTRY AND CULTURE AND ALL THE BEAUTY IT TRULY HAS. I THANK YOU FOR THE GRACE AND DIGNITY YOU SHOWED TOWARDS OUR PEOPLE AND THE RESPECT OF OUR CULTURE. THANK YOU ANDREW..I WILL WATCH YOUR SHOW TIL THE END OF MY DAYS, I PROMISE.
