1-I was looking forward to eating haggis in Scotland the most and I have to say I was very satisfied by my experience.

2-Least looking forward to? Well, anything in Asia can be surprising, but I was definitely not looking forward to raw pigs testicles. They ended up tasting all right.

3-I can’t wait to go hunting with the indigenous tribal peoples in Borneo and Tanzania because they have a ritual of cooking associated with the hunt. I’d love to be in Africa and be involved with a hunt for some four-legged creature and then roast them over an open fire under an African sky.

4-I will not try raw poultry intestines and certain types of animal brains because of encephalitis issues. But truthfully, I’m more scared of sliced tomatoes at the hotel salad bar.

Thanks for Bizarre Foods Andrew and you are doing exactly what I would do. The last place on earth I want to go to on any trip is McDonalds. I do visit the grocery stores whenever I'm on a trip to see how the other half lives even though that I've only been to Canada and Hawaii and in between.

My question with so many foods being available via mail orders through the web, I would like recommendations on where would be the best place to order from? Several years ago, I stopped by an English store with imported foods from Britain and I found Christmas pudding which I loved plus a few other items.

Also, for those of us wanting to experiment in the U.S., what about sharing some of the receipes and how we find some of the ingredients?

Andrew Andrew Andrew, Please let your producers know that there are many of us out there who would love to experience you culinary tastes. It would be nice if they could have a couple of shows that could indulge us. What do you think of that idea? How these lucky contestants would or could be chosen would be hard. PLEASE PUT ME IN THE LOTTERY! It would really be a highlight in my life. Imagine, how fortunate and estatic we the droolers would be.

uh, just to clarify, we don't eat guinea pigs (or Dagang Costas, as we call them) in the Philippines. I had several of them as pets growing up and they ended their lives out of the frying pan. I think you were referring to Ecuador?

Now, I will admit that the guinea pig eating bit also disturbed me a lot, but I have to agree with you in saying we can't pass judgment on another country's culture - and not just because my own country of birth has several of what you might consider gross-out food. So like what a lot of people have already said about this show, enjoy it for its educational value and be open-minded enough to appreciate cultures other than your own.

Smile

I don't see anything wrong with it. Eating gineapig is no different than eating rabbit or eating deer and people eat those all the time. if I was in another country and everyone is going out on a friday night for some ginea pig I would joing them. It would be just like picking a lobster out of the thank! (except is not a lobster and there is no thank. By the way ... i think you guys may be thinking of the episode in Peru.

Spirulina—it is a superfood, not many legumes and other food items besides meat have complete proteins, but spirulina has all essential amino acids. It does have vitamins as well, B1, B2, B3, B6, B9, B12, C, D, and E.

As to where to find it, try Googling "where to find spiruina." There are some sites where it is possible to order spirulina online like www.bulkfoods.com. I also know that at some smoothie shops that are health based, spirulina is often available to add. Other than that I would try your local food co-op, spirulina will probably be found in the dietary supplement section in pill or powder form.

The turduken came from Hebert's in Maurice, Louisiana. You should stop by and tell Sammy that you heard about them from me on Bizarre Foods, I know he'd love it. Or if you want to check them out online, here you go! Enjoy!

The Naked Juice company (www.nakedjuice.com) makes a fruit juice smoothie called Green Machine that contains 1300 mg of spirulina. The drink is green, but don't let that scare you. The initial flavor is of fresh vegetables, sort of like a V8 (only better), followed by fruit flavors that don't leave any icky aftertaste. I love the stuff. I don't know if it's the spirulina or the other ingredients but I feel great for two days after drinking a bottle of Green Machine. Plus it tastes great.

They have an online store locator or you can call 1-877-858-4237 (posted on their website). Maybe you can find one near you.

You know, I always offer it to them but they don't accept! They are much more into 'normal' food and actually it becomes quite a challenge for us to find food for our crew to eat when we are out in the middle of nowhere!

Which reminds me: Andrew, the Creole episode was very good, a little bit closer to home with foods that are just a little bit more accessible. It's entertaining to to have the vicarious experience of sheep's head and wood worms, but good Cajun food can be sampled by anyone through a number of Cajun food suppliers on the Internet.

Last year I bought a big supply from Cajun Grocer (www.cajungrocer.com). The pork boudins were outstanding and authentic; there's a good selection of etoufee, and shrimp, crab, and crawfish pies; just about every and any Cajun spice or condiment you'd ever want; and of course 15 lb. turduckensand a variety of stuffed chickens.

Everything is shipped rock hard frozen via overnight, so shipping can be pricey, but I'd recommend this place to anyone looking for good and authentic Cajun foods.

Shipping can be pricey, so if you're going to buy one you might was well add a few packages of boudin (rice+pork sausage); a few Cajun pies (shrimp, crawfish, crab); and a bunch of Cajun spice selections. That'll help to get the most from the shipping charges.

Service and delivery and quality was first class.

So my question is this, alot of people post on how you eat. The noise you make really and how bad it sounds. I've heard of poeple in the asian culture do the same thing to enhance the flavor or what ever...Is this something that you are doing?
Are you or your crew aware of the noise you make? Does the mic guy put the mic closer to your mouth when you eat? Lastly could you please stop making noise when you eat? Its nastier then some of those bizaar foods.

I loved your show and I was glad to hear its coming back in July.

1st qustion, Have you or the producers ever not eaten a dish or not aired it on TV concerned over contraversial issues? ala dogs & cats in asia. i really hope such worries do not come into account when making your show.

my 2nd question is, how do you feel about people comparing your show to A. Bordain's? (my 2nd favorite show when you came out hehe) Have you guys ever met?

I do have to say i love the open-mindness & appreciation u show for a different culture's uniquesness and tradition. that's all i ask you to keep continuing as u keep making this great show.

I dont think you understand this show at all. It isnt about SLAUGHTERING animals. It is about eating the food other people eat, just the weird bits. Wow,..how judgemental of you to say something so rude, without actually taking time to pay attention to the fact that the food Andrew eats is what others eat too.Nobody is even killing anything. Jeez. What do you do if you see someone eating fish,or a steak on tv?? Scream? Just curious,..cos it IS a creature being killed,in the end.

The only thing that we ever talked about never ever doing was dog. We came across a lot of oppurtunities to try dog meat in Vietname, but we made a very conscious decision not to try it or film it.

I would love to try your mom's stuffed shells, anytime.

As for my backback, sometimes we are out in the field far away from the van and because we don’t have a large crew, so often I carry things that we need like a first aid kit, walkie talkies, and bottles of water.

I don't really get hate mail from vegans or vegetarians. As to how I feel about it, I respect their rights tremendously. I merely happen to feel differently. It is the whole chocolate and vanilla scenario, there are choices for everyone.

I really hope that I can visit again. The hardest part of the show is that we go to places and learn more about what happens all throughout the year that we won't be a part of, like Harvest or Carnival. But I hoping to be able to get back at some point for both of these festivals.

Hello Andrew, love the show! You said you wouldn't be eating dog, why not? I went to China last year and was open minded enough to try it, I think some people, especially in the West, need to realize some people in other parts of the world can't just walk down to the local super market and pick up a pound of ground chuck.

Dear Andrew,

My son and I watch your show and he is 17 turning 18 in September. I've asked him would you eat that... he said yes he could eat what you could . So I thought how cool would it be if you had teenagers or other people travel with you to experience cultures and food, who maybe would not have the oppertunity. It would be great to see others react of course with respect to the people. Because you do an excellant job showing respect even if you are not thrilled with the food. My son's name is Jake and he is up for a challenge. Thanks Hester Cotten

Andrew
Greetings from a fellow gastronome with an adventuresome palate, roots in NYC, early experience in the food industry (my family owned/operated a classic ice cream parlor/luncheonette from the early 1920’s thru the mid 80’s).

I absolutely love the show!. I definitely envy your ability to gallop the globe in search of gustatory grandeur.

Did you ever get to try camel? I noticed you were foiled in your attempt to sample it in Morocco? I have eaten camel – in Australia of all places (supposedly there are more camels in Australia than there are in the Middle East)– and it wasn’t bad. It looked and tasted somewhat like corned beef – which is what I thought it was when I first sampled it. Still tasted like it after I found out what it was.

Which leads to my second question; ever thought about doing a Bizarre Foods Australia. That country has some interesting tidbits to snack on such as:
Kangaroo (quite tasty; not at all gamey)
Emu (also tasty)
Bush tomato (berry sized about midway between a current & blueberry; Yum)
Vegemite (my reaction was like yours was to Durian fruit)

Interesting things I didn’t get to try
Witchetty grubs (larvae of the ghost moth)
Damper (variety of bread made in the bush)
Bunya nuts (nuts from the Bunya pine tree)
Barley water (drink made from boiled barley and water)
Marmite (similar to Vegemite)
Too many others to list, hence my question.

Cheers

Hi,
I just watched the "Spain" episode and you tried Horchata and said it was awful!!! You need to try true Mexican Horchata!!! Its wonderful. I would describe it as liquid rice pudding!!! A little sweet, creamy, and refreshing with hint of cinnamon. Its great, and not anything like the Spanish version. Please try it and let me know what you think!
