I stayed in a real Fijian Village. It was awesome and for the price is was well worth it. For the one price all meals are included. I went to Danny's Village Homestay on the Coral Coast on the Island of Fiji in the South Pacific Ocean and I went with my wife and 3 kids 12, 10 and 3 so 5 of us. The kids had an awesome time I never saw them except at meal times. The rest of the day they were off exploring with the children of the village, down the beach, up the local river and exploring in the local jungle. My wife and I just cruised along "fiji time" doing whatever was on for the day, fishing, snorkling, in the village gardens, day trip to Suva (the Capital of Fiji), waterfall day trip just whatever. We orginally booked 4 days at the village and 5 days at a resort. After the 4 days at the village we went to the resort but only lasted 2 nights and 1 day as it was just like the home the resort was full or tourists sitting around the pool drinking and talking about their own country so it was a bit boring so we went back at the village as there was so much to do. This is a real village and has no relationship with any resorts so it is 110% a real Fiji village. And the food was awesome, real Fijian cooking fresh seafood, vegetables and fruit, and we even go to help prepare the food and help participate in the preparing the lovo (traditional cooking method of cooking in the ground)
The stay was well worth it for the price and you don't stay in the house with the host like a traditional homestay, there is your own cabin to sleep in but no ensuites (after the initial "geez this is a bit rough"...it is just awesome) Sake the host told us of a friend of his who as a similar village stay on Beqa Island which is just of Fiji's mainland so we can't wait to go back as a family and try that village stay next year. Happy travels.
