You can't go to Atlanta without eating at The Varsity. It's on the corner of North Ave., Spring St., and I-75/85 (the downtown connector), just across the highway from Ga. Tech (Georgia Institute of Technology).
Fast food with TV rooms and big glass rooms that you can sit in and watch the city. "What'll ya have! ... What'll ya have!" Chili steaks (burger with Hormel style chili, no beans) chili dogs, cayenne pepper in salt shakers on the tables, and the best onion rings on the planet (and more). You can, of course order stuff without chili, or with onions, but be sure to "have your order ready" when you step up to the register. They used to send people to the back of the line if they weren't ready. And don't forget your drink: a "large frosted orange" (like a dream sicle). And dessert: a fried peach pie. Try this link for more of the menu and location. The Varsity Later! |

mmmm...it might be worth the 45 minute drive for me to go right now!!! I could really go for a chili dog with mustard and a frosted orange!

I was in Atlanta last summer and went with a bunch of friends there and I found this place way over-rated. I get the kind of intentionally rude service but the food is so soaked in grease I find it almost inedible. That may because I am from the west coast and more used to a lighter palate. But I did enjoy my time there with friends and it is a great location meet in large groups.

The Varsity is overrated. I've had better chilli dogs from a Nathans' or Checkers/Rally's location, and better burgers from Hardees.
