Canary Wharf is a world-famous financial center in its own right – beautiful squares make their way between the shimmering glass and chrome of the skyscrapers. It all looks like the American dream given a good dose of European planning sense. There is also very good shopping, excellent restaurants (particularly at the edge overlooking the Thames) and stunning views. And when you arrive there by tube, you get out in Norman Foster’s stunning station, the greatest new building of the 21st century.
