Hi TJ's ...this is Tad with American Dream Safari. I hear you're coming to
Memphis and I would love to give you a tour in my 1955 Cadillac. I
typically explore off the beaten path neighborhoods where the real soul of
Memphis is still cookin.
Check out my website: www.americandreamsafari.com

See you soon,
Tad

Hey guys! Memphis may be the birthplace of rock and soul, but it's not all Elvis and Issac. There's a huge indie rock scene from alternative, garage, goth and even punk. Check out the Cooper Young neighborhood and visit Goner Records and the Young Street Deli bar to catch the future stars of rock.

I love Cooper and Youg area. One of my old stomping grounds. Was there just yesterday getting coffee at Otherlands. Goner Records is a must. One of only a few independant music stores I know of in Memphis

I know it is only a few days in Memphis but there is this really cool city about 1 1/5 hrs. from Memphis called Tunica, Mississippi and it is the casino capital of the South. It is a lot of fun. I visited it on my last trip to Memphis!

You guys should check it out!

Hi bebelatina19! Thanks for the suggestion, although we're so packed here in Memphis that I doubt we'll be able to make the trip. Frown I feel that everywhere I go, no matter how many things I experience, I'm missing out on something. Maybe someday.

Hey jazznfox and dugbear! I visited Goner Records with Lena, and I came away with some albums! Of course, I also came away dirt poor, but hey... music is food for the soul! It was a great experience.

Hey Ks31776,
Thanks so much for the thought but actually, we got invited already. Jaime and I were just walking along Beale and met some people in front of Pig on Beale and they invited us to their home for a bbq. So that was good, we're really happy we got to finally experience the southern hospitality! =)

Yeah. It happens. Goner records is the only place in Memphis (that I know of) that sells old 45's and 75's. Me and my friend who moved to Maine used to thumb through dusty used records boxes looking for anything interesting.

Hey Lena,

Thanks for your response. I'm very glad to hear that you guys got invited to a BBQ! It's great that you are getting to experience true southern hospitality. That's awesome! I wish I could have hosted you guys but my schedule wouldn't allow it. Maybe some other time.

I really hope all of you have a great time in Memphis and I look forward to seeing the show when it airs.

Lena, Jaime, Zach, Bevis and Tim - be safe and have a GREAT time visiting our diverse country!

Feel free to give me a "shout out" on the show!!

Bye now,

Kevin Wink

They should check out Ballet Memphis, they have an award winning architectural building and is considered a national leading small ballet company. Their work is heavily influenced by Memphis' culture. www.balletmemphis.com

Memphis is about its churches. Hope Presbyterian often has rock music at its Sunday evening service, 5:30 pm. Bellevue Baptist is one of the largest ever. Al Green has a church in Memphis too. There is even one where people ride up on motorcyles to listen to the sermon.
Good luck on your trip. Sun Studio has a good tour too. Lots of wonderful colleges to check out: Rhodes College has the most beautiful campus of gothic architecture.

The view of the Mississippi River is fantastic from the top of the Madison Hotel.

Be sure to see the Brooks Art Museum in Overton Park, The Dixon Gallery and Gardens, and various art galleries like Artists on Central.
