While in Memphis Beale Street is a free, good stop. BB Kings blues club is there and worth it every time! Rendezvous Ribs is great and according to their website "it's the worlds best."

Hey TJ's, BigCheese here. i'm sure when you're in Memphis you'll check out Gracelands. I went there this week and it is awesome!!! Made me want to go and load the ipod with Elvis tracks. If you go try and visit the local 'rock 'n' roll' diner in the mall next door....I had a great meal there (ask for the waitress, Sammy, who served me and is a s big Travel Channel fan.)
She says they have a great Elvis tribute artist there on a Thursday night.
enjoy BigCheese

You should definatly go to Graceland and the Peabody hotel. And for your chase rewards trip you should go to Gatlinburg. It's a good place for backpackers but it's also alot of fun and the.

Hey, it's Roni again! My mom just told me about another place. We didn't get the priveledge to go and see it during our visit, but there is a place called the "Civil Rights Museum", and she said that all the people she knew that had been there liked it. It was formed from an old minority-owened motel, where a could rooms were kept in memory of Martin Luther King and Lorrain, the motel owner's wife who died of a brain hemmorage hours after Dr. King was killed. You can learn more about it here: http://www.civilrightsmuseum.org/And good luck on your trip(s)!

Just stumbled upon this. It's not a trip suggestion, but since Bevis expressed interest in white tigers, I figured it would be of interest. Hate to burst your bubble, buddy: http://www.bigcatrescue.org/white_tigers.htmIt's really very sad.

Jaime, not sure about Korean food in Memphis, but I can give Bevis a hint on a great Japanese restaurant. Sekisui of Japan was a blast when I was last in Memphis (I live as far on the other end of TN as you can get from Memphis). They are located on Humphreys. Phone is 901 747 0001. The entrees are a little pricey, but you can get appetizers that are cheap and big enough to share. They have a great night life there and have good mixed drinks! And, in hunting the phone number for this post, I noted a website has it voted Best of City, so it must still be as good as I remember it! Locals, correct my post if my memory is wrong and it's not that great.
I'll add a vote for visiting the Peabody. It's quick, free and fun. Ask them what they feed the ducks. It's hilarious.
I know votes are mixed on Graceland, but I'm not an Elvis fan and I still got a kick out of it. It's tacky in a wonderful way. Lots of shag carpet, naugahyde and yellow formica.
Enjoy the city and our state! Welcome!

Honestly, I would really like for the team to attend a Historically Black College (American) football game. (Like the Bayou classic!) My home town is about two hours from Memphis, (Pine Bluff, Arkansas). The last game of the season is Nov. 18 featuring UAPB vs. Texas Southern in Pine Bluff. For many of my foreign friends, the one treat they always talk about is the half time show and the battle of the bands. Honey, the show alone is priceless.
With the Golden Lions of UAPB on their first ever berth in the SWAC Championship game, this is an experience like no other. It will allow the TJs to have a taste of African American culture that many non African Americans will never know. Free tickets and tailgating, fall in the South.....ahhhhhhhh, American football at its finest.

Go to Neely's or Interstate BBQ for really good cheaper Memphis BBQ, Try the BBQ Spagetti for a unique meal. Try the Bayou cajun restraunt on the sqaure, its the closest you will get to New Orleans. If you want a real southern food experience you need to be invited to a country dinner where someone's grandmother is in the kitchen. You have to Eat Biscuits and gravy in the morning or Krispy Creme Doughnuts. For asian style there are lots of buffets, i'm not an expert but i would just go cheap. There is a great japanses steak house called bennie hannah's(spelling is probably wrong) they cook the food at your table and it has been here for a long time. I think you should use your chase rewards money on a entire city food splurge and not miss a single place, this is the city for food on your tour. and good luck with setting that up. If that does not work there is skydiving, I know jaime sad she wanted to skydive i beleive. The Memphis Zoo has recently upgraded and is very beauitful, they have rare White Bengal Tigers now and also Giant Pandas. Sun Studios is the holy grail for music My Great Cousin had one of the first Rockabilly bands to ever record there "The Pacers" they still tour the world by the way. GraceLand is of course a must. please be careful in this city, Beale Street is the only place you should walk around at night. Find some friendly people from nicer neighborhoods, they might let you stay the night for free. Take care of those two pretty girls and stay away from any confrontation involving them and Drunk people. Out of towners have been known to get beat up by groups of angy teenagers at rock and roll shows. I don't mean to scare you so have fun. please ask questions on this forum.

FEDEX- Is the place to go for a late night tour. Its free and it happens after midnite every nite of the week. Tours are provided inside the super hub, and the 5 can even send a package home using Fedex... They can see over a million packages taken off planes, sorted, and reloaded. Fedex has its own control tower for its fleet of over 400 planes and they land and take off every 3-5 min. every weekday nite... They have a highway for tugs pulling trains of cargo cans and it appears to be controlled chaos... For something that makes America (and the world) tick every day- a hub tour is worth checking out.

When my Aunt lived in Memphis, they used to go to Tunica, Mississippi to the gambling river boats. It would give you the middle-America version of Las Vegas... where we're conflicted about gambling, so we only let you gamble on parked riverboats.
It's the rather sad side of the US...ugly highways, tourbuses of old people wasting their money gambling.
Also, you might visit Mud Island to see the Harbor Town village. It's a "new urbanist" development. It's a small (and expensive) example of how Americans are trying to re-learn how to make cities and towns that people want to live in.
