OK, if you REALLY want some cheap entertainment you simply MUST drive to Holly Springs, MS (not too far off the beaten path) to vist Graceland TOO!! $5 will get you in the door and I promise you won't be dissapointed. It will provide many laughs.
Here is a link that provides more information. http://www.roadsideamerica.com/tips/getAttraction.php3?tip_AttractionNo==781 |

Hey this is Catherine here. I'm a 22 year old graduate student and I've lived in Memphis my entire life! All of the suggestions that people have given y'all have been great. I saw Tim's picture in the paper this morning and thought I would log-on and tell y'all my favorite places in my hometown. (Did y'all know you made the local newspaper? Check out today's Commercial Appeal if you haven't seen it yet.) Anyway, the south is a great place, full of hospitality, as I'm sure you have noticed. Lots of people are telling you to head to Nashville or East TN, but you've got too much to see right here in Memphis.
My favorite restaurant is Huey's; I eat there at least once a week! They are famous for hamburgers, but I think all of their food is great. It's very cheap as well. There are several locations, so there should be one near the area of town that you're staying. I think someone also mentioned the House of Mews in midtown, and that's a fun place to stop by for thirty minutes if you're in the Midtown area. If you like animals, it's a fun place to visit- it's a cat adoption sanctuary, and you can go inside (for free) and play with dozens of cats that run free around the store. Cafe Ole is a neat Mexican restaurant right across the street. Barbeque is very Memphis as well, but I know everyone has told you that. Corky's or Rendezvous really are the best. Most Memphis shopping takes place at our malls, the best one being Wolfchase Galleria, off the interstate out in the Cordova area. That entire area around the mall has tons of shopping and eating opportunities, but it's more expensive and more commercial than other parts of the city. And well, I won't spend much time on other stuff, because everyone else has pretty much given you the right advice. If you have questions about anything or anyplace, let me know. I've been here a long time! Oh and by the way, I'm convinced my mother makes the best home cooked food in the South, so let me know if you want a free meal, and I'll pick you up! My email is TripleC84@aol.com I hope y'all have a great time during the rest of your trip in Memphis! |

Pho Saigon on Poplar in Memphis is THE best Vietnamese around. It's economical and the food is AWESOME! I have never been dissapointed.
I recommend picking several different dishes and sharing. You must ask for extra bowls/plates to do this though. |

Memphis is a community of Caring. It is world famous for St. Jude's Children Hospital which tries to find a cure for leukemia and treats children with that illness. Fundraisers are held around the clock in Memphis for this worthy cause, like the Danny Thomas Golf Tournament.
Memphis has many spacious treed avenues, such as Walnut Grove, with gracious homes on either side. Memphis has lots of bookstores with coffeeshops such as Borders, Barnes and Nobles, and others which are not part of chains. Memphis has many malls, like Wolf Chase, with Macy's and Dillards as the anchors. If you get the chance, check out the Century Club, a grand, historic home on Union, which was the birthplace of many fine Memphis organizations. |

Memphis keeps its imagination alive. The city has several first class theatres, such as Playhouse on the Square--where Elvis has a chair, and Theatre Memphis--where a new soon to be world famous musical, BARK! opens April 2007. The Memphis Symphony plays to full houses at the Cannon Performing Arts Center downtown, and sometimes at the Germantown Performing Arts Center in East Memphis. Bartlett also has a fine Performing Arts Center and sponsors bluegrass festivals on its grounds in the summer. The Pink Palace is a castle of a Children's Museum where imagination is fostered in early years. |

I was at 'Blue City' Cafe the other night and i got to hear 'Freeworld', one of the best bands in all of Memphis.
But even cooler than that was meeting this guy called Prentice Wulff. He is the lead singer of a band called 'Hooked'. He invited me to go to the 'Blue Monkey' to hear his band play. Well last night i got to do that and let me tell you, freakin awesome!! I was blown away by their talent. Prentice Wulff can hit those notes with the best of them. And the others all rocked too. I was so impressed i wanted to share with you all. When in Memphis, go and see them. Venue Dates: http://myspace.com/hooked1 www.hookedband.com Cya Y'all... TJ Tim |
