I recommend the Embassy Suites - Downtown. Located close to everything and has a breakfast buffet and happy hour for guests. I had a very nice stay there. Hotel staff very courteous and helpful.
Hotel Burnham is another great option. It's right in the "loop" and close to all the shopping and theaters. It is also a Kimpton Hotel and cheaper than Hotel Monaco.
I have been to Embassy Suites Hotel Chicago Downtown.
This hotel is one well oiled machine. While we were there, the place seemed to be at 100% occupancy. There was a large family reunion, a large wedding in the ballroom and party afterwards in the atrium. All the while, in another area, cranking out cocktails effortlessly for the usual manager's reception.
The staff was courteous yet unobtrusive and quick to respond to your needs. Our rollway popped a rivet which caused it not to close. No problem. A phone call and maintenance is there in five minutes. Rooms are kept in tip top shape. Excellent concierge service. The location can't be beat. One block to the Red Line CTA. Three blocks to Michigan Avenue and the bus lines. Surrounded by good restaurants, chains and indigenous ones alike.
The breakfast buffet is icing on the cake, especially for a family. Excellent omelets and lots of other items to choose from. I am a usually pretty harsh judge, but can't think of a more suitable hotel in Chicago for a family vacation.
Anyone wanting to appreciate Chicago may well begin by beholding the scenic waters of Lake Michigan from the many rooms and suites of the Congress Plaza Hotel. In this downtown Chicago hotel, individuals, corporate groups and families will always make something more special out of their trip, whether they’ve come for personal or business reasons.
