Some of Lesley Smiths mistakes.

Edinburgh Live.

Lesley said Burke and Hare were famous Body Snatchers, they were in fact murderers.

Lesley said a Spirit called Mr Boots had gained his name from his occupation, in fact the name is given to him because of the phenomena associated with that Spirit, all that is seen or heard is a pair of boots.

Coalhouse Fort Episode.

When in contact with a Tudor period soldier Lesley Smith asked “Do you know the Queen Mary”, which is a stupid question to ask because when Queen Mary came to the throne in 1553 she had the garrison at Coalhouse Disbanded.

Whilst on a walk around with Yvette and Cath the three were talking in very revered terms to what they hoped would be the spirit of an American of British serviceman, in fact the only reported spirit contacted by mediums in the past is a German machine gun operator. Lesley should have know that.

Oxford Castle Episode.

Whilst doing glass divination on a Ouija Board the glass moved to P, then O, then to the middle of W and X. Brian Shepherd came out with a bit of a story about someone being forced to change religions. Lesley’s immediate reaction was to say that a Monk had caught the POX and so had been forced away. However, Monks lived in Monasteries, a far more likely outcome is that during the English Civil war Oxford Castle was used as a prison where hundreds of Parliamentarian soldiers were kept locked up and not fed a great deal. Many changed sides (and religions) to avoid dying in the Castle.

Her continued use of the words “Roundhead” and “Cavalier” prove that she has no grasp of what she is doing, both terms were used during the English Civil war as terms of abuse which one side would use to the other, in fact if one Parliamentarian called another one a Roundhead he would be fined his wages and flogged. So if the aim is to make contact with the spirits of Royalist and Parliamentarians then why abuse them to do so?

Denbigh Live.

It was very evident that Lesley was passing on information found by Fred Batt, in fact almost every time some research was done it was Fred Batt who had found it. On one occasion Lesley was being asked to pass on a “Spell” for protection in which Saint Loup would protect the team. Loup is French for Wolf, however the P is silent, which Lesley did not know because she pronounced it “Loop”. Making the whole thing a bigger farce than it looked.

Gettysburg Live in the US.

20ft Snakes? Lesley said that there are 20ft Snakes in the vicinity of Gettysburg, the largest Snakes in America are Indigo snakes measuring around 5-8ft and they are found much further south than Pennsylvania.

During the investigation Brian Shepherd came up with a story about a Confederate soldier being lynched for shooting a civilian. It is true one civilian died during the fighting, Ms Jenny Wade, however the bullet which killed her was a ricochet, no Confederate soldier was hung for the shooting because during the battle both sides were laying down heavy fire, it could just as well have been a Union bullet which killed her, unless it was a smoothbore musket ball, but either way to pick out her killer within hundreds of soldiers is laughable.

There were also discrepancies with regards the casualties at Gettysburg, made not just by Lesley but Paul Ross too, Lesley did not correct him at the time.

London Live.

Lesley failed to do her job on many occasions during this investigation, she also came out with some strange sentences.

Brian was saying about the scented cloth covering the persons face, and of it smelling. Lesley failed to mention that rose petals were sown into pockets and sleeves of gravediggers and people who collected the corpses during these plagues, or that handkerchiefs soaked in urine was an affective way of keeping out "bad air" (the British Army used this form of anti-gas protection during WW1)

Brian mentioned bodies being dug up then beheaded, this happened to Oliver Cromwell and two of his croneys three years after Cromwell’s death. His body may have been hung in chains on London bridge for a time and then taken away to be beheaded, Lesley failed to know this.

Brian mentioned the heads would be covered in tar, not quite tar but they would be par-boiled to preserve them somewhat, another thing Lesley failed to know or mention.

But perhaps Lesley's biggest mistake of night one was her naming of the four humors. According to Lesley they are Hot, Cold, Dry and Wet. In fact the four humors which people tried to keep in balance were Yellow Bile, Black Bile, Phlegm and Blood.

Whilst in the Underground system the medium came out with the words “Charles is the Architect behind all this”. Lesley could easily have done a little research into this, but failed to do so. The Charles who Brian Shepherd was referring to was more than likely Charles Pearson, he was a solicitor for the London Corporation at the time the Underground was being decided upon, he persuaded the Corporation to create the entire Underground system, clearing slums and bringing in better housing and rail links for people to commute to and from work. More than likely he was the “Architect behind all of this”. So why didn’t Lesley pass that information on?

One of Lesley’s mistakes on night three made me feel sick inside, it is one thing for a medium to gain a name of a person or for that name to come through via a ouija board, on night three Brian Shepherd came up with a nickname of a man who had served in the Churchill war rooms during the war, because it is still so close in time the persons real name should not have been broadcast, I would be devastated to learn that my relatives were not at rest in the afterlife, but to think my grandfather was haunting the underground bunker would make me very upset. Brian of course didn’t give the name of the person, neither did a Ouija Board. But Lesley Smith did. In my opinion this is the most irresponsible and disrespectful thing Lesley Smith has ever done on Most Haunted.

Lesley’s other mistake was a now usual gaff, she described the beheading of Charles I as taking place “one cold November Morning”… in fact he was executed in JANUARY 1649.

There are plenty of other mistakes out there… yes its true people make mistakes, everyone does, me included. Some of the above will be mistakes, genuine ones at that. But the number of mistakes above prove she is wrong for the show, plus some of those mistakes can only be seen as her attempt at distorting the history of the location, to what ends only she can answer, if she is being pressured into doing so then she should say so… if anyone knows of any mistakes which I have missed then let me know. Surely she cannot continue in this job, I’ve said it a million times, Most Haunted educates thousands if not millions of people, whilst the paranormal phenomenon will always be debated to its authenticity the History behind the locations they visit should not be changed, if they are dealing with myths (such as Witches, Demons and the Devil) then they should say so and not create a bad image of the Paranormal, Paranormal Investigators or Paranormal Historians. They said on the X Files “the truth is out there”, it’s not on our TV screens. But could it be? Could Most Haunted change for the better? Of course it can if people want it, if people are sick of the bull and want to see some honest TV then they have to believe that they can change it. That is what this group is about, that is why I still have faith that it can change for the better, if I didn’t believe it then I wouldn’t care less about Lesley Smith or all those who believe every word she says, but I do care, I care about the truth and educating the truth. I care about this group and its cause. If you do too then join the facebook group “Most Haunted Fans Demand Improvements”. Make change happen.

Thank you for your time.

CJ Linton.
