We live in the Cape Cod area. From a locals' point of view, it is quite beautiful in the summertime. But for our money, our family's favorite getaway is Martha's Vineyard. It's a small island off the coast of Cape Cod, making it the perfect complement to a Cape vacation.
The Vineyard is a quick 45 minute ferry ride via The Streamship Authority from Wood's Hole -- a peninsula southwest of Falmouth, MA. The town of Edgartown, MA on Martha's Vineyard is ideal for everyone in the family. It has bike rides, restaurants, shopping and beautiful beaches with vista views. Be sure to carry a beach towel if you plan to enjoy the surf. For accommodations, I suggest the Harbor View Hotel. It is moderately priced, close to the water and within walking distance of Edgartown Center. Even if you can only stay a day or two, it will bring a smile to the whole family -- young and old. Couple it with the rest of the week on Cape Cod, and that's my idea of a heavenly holiday! |

as a visitor to cape cod i would have to say it is the cleanist most pristine place i've ever vacationed at.we stayed in dennis and rented a house for only $610 for 7 nights.it was a beautiful home about 1 mile from the water.we didn't get a chance to go to martha's vineyard.my wife and i and some of her family went.my family is very interested in coming there also.we visited provincetown,as well as,plymouth.both of those towns are very cool.also a light house tour is awesome to do.

I lived on "The Vineyard" for 10 years! It is a fun place in the summer but the BEST time to be there is between Labor Day and Columbus Day.
The crowds have gone home, the weather is mild and the shops are still open. Don't Miss Tivoli Day in Oak Bluffs in September. |
