We stayed at the Flamingo in September for 4 nights. Went with 2 friends for a girls trip. We arrived on different flights, so they had already checked in by the time I arrived. Room was not bad, a little dated, but a pretty good size, and seemed clean. View not bad, and in a different section of the resort that had us taking the elevators by the restaurant. This wasn't bad as it put us pretty close to the casino. The location of the Flamingo is awesome, right in the middle of the strip. However, we will never stay there again.
The room my friends were given initially had not been cleaned at all where they went to it, so they went back to the desk, and got another one. I noticed some things in the closet when I was putting my stuff away (half a case of Corona, and some various shopping bags) thought it belonged to my friends, so didn't think anything of it. We discovered 3 days into our stay that they thought it was mine. So the question that struck us was who did it belong to, and was the room cleaned before we got there. We all work for Disney in the resorts, so we have high expectations. We also know the difference between how housekeeping cleans the room if you are still in it compared to if you are checking out. So did we have clean sheets on the beds, etc? We thought so, but couldn't be sure. It could have just been a case of the housekeeper didn't check the closet after the last guest checked out. We deceided that since we only had 1 more night we would mention it at check out the next day. I had a rollaway at $30 per night. It was larger then the ones we have at Disney, closer to a full size bed then a twin. But the condition was not the best. It had a huge dip in the middle, that made getting out of it in the morning a bit of a challenge. Not worth $30 that is for sure.
We had some post cards we wanted to mail out before beginning that days events of touring more resorts on the strip. We went to the front desk, and went to the mail center. There were about 3 other people in line at the mail center, but no staff there. It turns out the people in front of us were there for the same reason as us, to get stamps. There was a woman working at the Concierge Desk, which was next to the mail center, but at an angle that she was standing sideways to us. She did look over at us all several times. Though she had no one she was assisting, she never asked if we needed assistance, or went to get someone, or called anyone. After we stood there for about 5-10 minutes, one of my friends went over to her and said we needed help. She begrudgingly came over to us. As we all asked about stamps, she let us know they do not sell them at the front desk, and went to walk away, without telling us where we needed to go. So, we asked her, and she said we needed to go to the UPS store or whatever it was and she looked at us like we were a bunch of idiots for clealy not knowing this fact. When we asked where it was, the response was "over there" and she directed us back towards the casino witha wave of her hand before walking away again. So we wandered "over there", and discovered a long hallway of stores. So we figured this was "over there" and followed it for a while until we found the place to mail post cards. Somehow the guy charged me 50 cents a postcard, but by that time I didn't care, we had wasted enough time.
The next day when we checked out, we told the girl at the desk about the stuff in the closet, and rude service at the desk, she said there was nothing she could do, but did we want a manager. We said yes, but it took her a while to go get him. He happened to be about 10 feet away from her on the desk. We told him about the room(s), our concerns, and about the rude girl from the day before. He said he would pass along our concerns, and gave us $30 back for our troubles. We were stunned, as he seemed to not care that we had experienced at least 1 dirty room, possibly 2, and employees that seemed to consider us an annoyance rather then the reason they have a job in the first place. We figured he would give us back something more then that. We also expereiced bad service at the buffet resaurant as well. We saw our server twice, and never had our dirty dishes taken or drinks refilled. Food wasn't that great either. Working where we do, we expect the level of service when we go someplace that we are expected to give. Not the case at the Flamingo. We deceided that we would never stay there again, and would not recommend it to others.
The best thing we can say is the security guys are awesome, as we found out when 1 of my friends thought she lost her wallet at the Riveria. We took the Deuce back up, discovered their security was worthless. So we stopped at Security at the Flamingo just in case she lost it there. They didn't have it either, but provided us with a ton of info on what to do.
