Hello Travel Channel and viewers!
Destination - Pleasanton California - the most exciting festival including food, music cultural celebrations and athletics you will ever attend! The food, the smells, the PEOPLE, the numerous bands playing all the time, the costumes, etc made this a sensory extravaganza! My whole family (ages 2 to 55) and about 50,000 people experienced numerous activities, shows, music, exemplary professional and amateur athletics, costumed re-inactors, demonstrations, bands, singers, food, product vendors to keep us busy for 2 whole days. The Caledonian Club website states that this event occurs every Labor Day weekend at the Pleasanton County Fairgrounds off Bernal road in Pleasanton California as it has for over 144 years! To keep our excitment in sharing this with you brief, we have made a partial list of just a portion of activities Travel Channel viewers can have fun with just as we did! Imagine men (many built like 'Arnold' and women (all in short kilts!) (My wife loved this part!) competing in 8 of the most physically difficult, technically challenging athletic events in the world! Add in several WORLD CHAMPIONS and cover a football-field sized area with several of these Herculean events happening at the same time and you have a show to excite and enthrall your viewers! Surround these athletes with a beautiful tree / shade covered fairgrounds, and see an incredible variety of activities including: Pipe bands - balladeers - fiddle players - rock bands, etc. Athletic Heavy Events (men and women) Clan Tent gathering - several dozen clans and hundreds of representatives ready to help anyone learn about their Celtic / European and American origins, to visit and find out about their family heritage, etc. Rugby and Shinty Piping and Drumming (individuals and bands compete and perform) Highland Dancing Competition and Performances Celtic Country Dancing Music Sheep Dog Trials Birds of Prey Demonstrations and Exhibits Musical Entertainment Historical Re-Enactments (and dozens and dozens of costumed participants living in camps) A Kilted Mile Race A Children’s Glen (our kids loved this. There was a mist sprayer that our blind daughter just savored!) The Clydesdales horses (which we found out originated in Scotland!) And a spectacular Grandstand Show that includes our U.S. Marine band, bands from Scotland, etc! Surrounded and infused within the entire event are colorful flags, banners, pictures, murals, etc.... You, Travel Channel, have the opportunity to delight every sense while providing numerous visual and interview opportunities and numerous subjects, historical and current to investigate and showcase for your wonderful viewers! I have watched your show for years, love it, and know this would be a very popular, fun, exciting, and educational opportunity for your viewers! This festival would make a great show for the Travel Channel and a wonderful destination for your viewers to visit and enjoy! Kind Regards, Jim scotlandforever7@sbcglobal.net http://www.caledonian.org/games.html |
