It's been 18 years since I had the most memorable meal, in 13 countries traveled. It was then Czecholslovakia, at a hotel called, Belvedere. Their version of "goulash", wasn't the Mom threw some creamette noodles, hamburger and tomato sauce "homemade" version of a Stouffer's meal; it was tender venison, served with something like Spaetzle noodles, very similar to our local "Black Forest Inn". While it may not sound terribly exotic, it was some excellent food. Separately, why hasn't there been any local attempt to get a good Jewish deli (aside from Cecil's) since Sasha's flopped (not that bacon wrapped scallops are probably found in any NY deli) or since the Lincoln Dell closed up shop? Couldn't you recruit some childhood friend to bring some of the true deli spirit to the Midwest?
