Puerto Vallarta is one of the few destinations that offers lots of choices for larger families or extended family groups looking to travel together. Here you'll find a good number of all inclusive resorts that offer connecting rooms or suites that can accommodate 5,6 even up to 8 family members. Hotels like the Melia, the Marival and the Barcelo are excellent choices.

The newest resort area is called Riviera Najayit. This is the new name for the area north of Nuevo Vallarta. Many luxury resorts, including those that cater to families will be opening here shortly.

All of this is fine if you like a vacation to feel like a cruise....I think the beatuy of Punta Mita is a better choice. I found a beautiful home in Las Palmas near the Four Seasons resort through a company called Private Trade Winds. We had a great vacation, lots of beach time, golf and great dining!

Puerto Vallarta has SOO much to offer and is such an amazing town. Plus the flight from lax or even sfo is pretty quick... Although you do pretty much lose a day flying down arrive at the airport early and with the time change, the airport stuff, and flight time it will be 6 pm before you get settled in at your hotel or whatever in PV.
