After studying hundreds of EVPs, I just try to do the least to it so that it can be heard by others. I don't care about what the sceptics will think because they will never believe. I don't believe in what I can't hear so when someone tells me that they "are in tuned" with the source so that only "they" can hear them, I just totally ignore it. Now that being said, I will do whatever it takes to make the audio understandable. I try to stay away from noise filters by using the parametric equalizer. I have changed the pitch, I have slowed/sped up, reverse, EQ,FFT, etc. If it's outside of the human hearing range I can't see how you can change it so the human ear can hear it. I had one person get mad at me because when I cleaned up her EVP that it clearly said something different then what she imagined she heard. I told her that I can't change what was said and make it say something else, I can only change HER PERCEPTION of what was said. But I used one location like a lab and tried various experiments. I found out that you do not need "white noise" to help the ghosts form words. If it is a residual haunt, the words are already there. If it is an intelligent haunt, then they want to participate with your conversations. We have found that EVPs can be layered over each other and by stripping away the frequencies then you can seperate the multi EVPs. This is why people may disagree over what is being said on an EVP, because there are multiple EVPs layered over each other. The other problem I see is that people throw away EVPs if there is someone else in the room. After having multiple witnesses we found that EVPs are formed by ; 1. Using our words to form what they want to say. They do this by using words that are very close to what we are saying as if to playfully hide their involvement. We had an investigator say to the camcorder "It's just me" and right after that a little boy did a sound check on the microphone saying, "One Two Three". Or we had an entity say what the investigator was going to say right before she says it. 2. They use our voice and say some ridiculous things. We had the audio/video of an investigator keep saying "Maggots" while he was talking in a regular conversation with another member. 3. They use each others EVP (piggyback) to say what they want. We found that out while arguing over what an EVP said. She heard a boy saying, "My name's Paul" while I heard a woman say "He's a slave". So we started working on it by stripping away the frequencies and found out that there were two EVPs and that we were both right as to what it said. Each person starts losing the hearing of different frequencies as they age. My hearing was fine according to the doctor but that I had lost the higher frequencies which was common for someone my age. She was having the upper frequencies over power her ability to hear the lower frequency and that is why I heard one thing and she heard another. The two EVPs were on two different frequencies. 4. Then we have had EVP's that sound like jibberish. My daughter's voice clearly was saying something but we could not understand it, until we played it in reverse. We have a similar EVP from a new case where they adjust what was being said until it sounded like an Indian chant. 5. Electronic and mechanical sounds are used as well but the EVPs are so degraded that it is impossible to pull out a quality EVP. 6. They spoke right out using their own voice saying whatever they want.
During their Eastern State Penn investigation I heard Zak say that EVPs are ghost voices captured in white noise. This is incorrect. If it were so, we would never have any Class A EVPs.
i just saw the ancient ram's inn episode on thier marathon before the live show tonight , and i saw where aaron was in the area by himself taunting ghosts. he had recieved an evp at that time and the team had deciphewred it as saying "...(cant make out first word)where are you?..." well , i think i could hear the first word. i think it said aaron's name. "..aaron , where are you?.." when you put this in context of what aaron was sayin right before the evp happend it does make perfect sense that the spirit would say this. aaron had been taunting the ghopsts in the area to pick him up and throw him. soon after this evpo he had gotten another one that said "..dont tempt me.."
so im pretty sure based on this that it was lookin for aaron on the spirit plane where our wqorld touches thiers so it could levatate him/throw him.
I'm not convinced that there is a "spirit plane". My theory is a bit long but the short of it is, that they are here with us on our plane. The human eye can only see a speck of the range of light ae we know it. There are laser beams that we cannot see without special eye wear and I believe that the energy of the dead are hidden in that range that we cannot normally see. A child who's eyes and brain are still developing are sometimes able to see within this area. Anyway, the energy of the dead are hidden in frequencies of light and sound that we cannot hear "normally".
I just want to say I like what you guys are doing the Oct.30 show was ok the thing is when you do EVP's you have to be quiet long enough to here a response, you guy's scream and yell and talk over everything, even when the couple was trying to listen back to what they recorded.I know its hard sometimes when you start getting activity like that.
To jerrytalbert, It seems that you know your stuff when it comes to picking up EVPs, but I would be interested in your thoughts of the voice box that was used on the GA Live show. Zach and the team have also used a different device in their older shows where it translates the spirits energy into words. Whats your opinion on these devises?

The "Frank's Box" after the creator Frank Sumption or "Spirit Box" (as they called it) is a hoax. You can't use a machine that roams up and down the AM frequencies, like when you do a scan of your radio, and pluck out words and say it is the voice of the dead. I'm sure you noticed that the guy wouldn't shut up talking as it was scanning. The reason being is that even without questions being asked he would still be getting his random words. It's the electronic version of that magic Black 8 Ball where you ask questions and turn the ball and a random answer pops up and you have to somehow in your mind fit the answer to your question. I'm sorry, but the only way you may be able to hear the dead in real time is to block off all of your senses and listen. Maybe with amplification, like the Bionic Ear, you would be able to accomplish this. Problem with that is you wouldn't capture all EVPs that way unless you made a loop to a recording device and you can hear playback shortly after recording without shutting off the recorder. You can do this with a modified cassette recorder and I have seen the plans on how to do this. I have yet tried to put this device together to see if it could work, but the theory sounds okay.
i do see what youre sayin jerry about the spirit radio but....
you seem to be forgetting that they did seem to be getting decently relative answers to thier questions. the answers were generally recieved too fast for a outside party to be feeding them to the box in response.

Most of the time I just heard them yell out what they thought they heard. I didn't actually hear much from their radio.
